About

Fast Food Restaurant
Border Grill was founded in 1997 with the goal of bringing a fresher, healthier alternative to the restaurant spectrum in Marquette. Clearly, the market was ready for “real” food in our "fast-casual” format, as we have grown to four locations serving the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is very gratifying for all of us at Border Grill to hear the passion that our guests have about our restaurants.

The name and marketing of this place is pretty misleading, lol. I am from west and South Texas and grew up in El Paso, Laredo and San Antonio and lived in texas and on the border for 37 years (all my life). We moved up here recently and drove to Marquette and stopped in here. Being from South Texas, needless to say I was pretty horrified. The "fajita" is nothing like a fajita. Im not sure how they make their steak fajita but that is... not how its done. There is no asada flavor at all... its like they throw steak on a skillet. You are supposed to marinate the meat and use a comal. ...and the "salsa" is this bizarre orange dip. Its more like an interpretation, similar to other places in the UP but this one takes it to a different level. Its very...different from mexican cuisine. I'll put it at that. It is edible. I will likely stop by again, to try other items. They need to get someone in there that will teach them how to make real carne asada, or the owner needs to go down to the border and eat real tex mex or mexican food and change it up or add some authentic stuff and I bet this place would explode.

I do not generally care for counter service places but visiting from out of state and my friend brought us here. I am NOT disappointed! Initially the menu was overwhelming, but that is also ‘me’, but I mostly made sense of it and had a plan when I got to the counter. The fellow taking our order was super friendly and helpful and guided my daughter and me through the order, painlessly. Food did not take long at all to arrive at our table. And it was quite tasty. I had a carne asada bowl, added rice and swapped the salsa. Added some street corn. Really nice. Ample seating and space, which was welcomed after realizing this was a counter service establishment.

I made a large catering order that got very messed up - John took up the problem on the spot and created a fast solution. He turned a bad situation around and it ended up being a great experience for me. Thank you, John.

Tiny portions for to-go orders. I got the border bowl and it was barely any food. A few tablespoons of rice and 4 slices of green pepper, 8 tiny bites of chicken, not worth the money.

Beware, they gave us the wrong order, then when I called back the "manager" refused to replace the order, then lied to us stating that "they" ( whoever that is ) would contact me Monday and send coupons, we'll, low and behold, "they" never got a hold of us, and we still have yet to receive food no apology. Thanks for nothing !!!!!
