Sad that they have gone down hill in the past year or so. Filthy tables, floors, and menus. Takes an hour to get food and then you have to hunt down the waiter for the bill. We tried twice this summer and had the same experience both times.

The waiters there have always been so good. We frequently go with my mother who has a dairy allergy, and they always make sure her food is safe for her, even on busy nights. The food has always been good but we keep coming back for the caring staff!

Cold food, incorrect order, and poor service. The place moderately busy but we were seated right away. It took 15 minutes or so before the waitress stopped by…should have been my signal to leave. Placed the order and the waitress disappeared for another 40 minutes. The food came out over an hour after being seated and dropped off by someone else. 2 of the 3 dinners were room temp. Wrong tortillas were delivered with one of them (also cold). I would have said something but nobody stopped by to check to make sure things were right or to refill drinks. Another 30 minutes go by and the waitress finally reappears, drops the check and scurries off. By then I just wanted to get out of there. Paid and left…never to be back.

Food and service are consistently great. However, ar dinner last night, there were no sauces on the table! Usually, there is a selection of several ranging from mild to fiery. Further, there were no sauces on any other tables. When asked, the server said they had all been removed by mamagement to save money. Might consider bringing your own favorite sauce.

Homemade chips and salsa are worth the stop alone! My wife and I are vegan so there are not a ton of options for us in the U.P. but we love dining in for veggie dishes at La Cantina. Everything is fresh and authentic. Definitely make a stop in Hancock if you’re looking for a solid Mexican option in the Keweenaw.
