Instead, the driver delivered my order about 15 minutes early, left my food on the ground outside, and did not call or text to let me know it had been delivered. Since I had selected a specific delivery time, I had no reason to be watching the door 15 minutes beforehand, especially with food sitting outside in the heat. To make matters worse, my drink was completely missing from the order. When I called the store, the manager explained that they only had one delivery driver and that if the driver hadn’t brought my order early, it would have been late. I understand being short-staffed, but that does not make it acceptable to disregard a customer’s scheduled delivery time without communicating with them. A simple phone call or text asking whether an early delivery was okay would have prevented the entire situation. I had also included a $5.20 tip on an order that was only around $19, so this certainly wasn’t a case of expecting good service while refusing to compensate the driver. The store ultimately voided/refunded the order, which I appreciate. However, between ignoring the scheduled delivery time, leaving my food unattended on the ground without notifying me, forgetting part of my order, and then using staffing as the explanation, this was an unnecessarily frustrating experience. Being short-staffed may explain what happened, but it doesn’t excuse the lack of communication or the incomplete order.
