I live in downtown Silver Spring, where Ethiopian food is everywhere — I have probably seven Ethiopian restaurants within walking distance of my apartment. And somehow, none of them compare to Elsi. This place is about 25–30 minutes away from me, sometimes longer with traffic, and I will still happily make that drive just to eat here. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, authentic, and absolutely worth the trip. The injera is great, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere and service make the whole experience even better. Whenever someone asks me for a good Ethiopian restaurant recommendation, Elsi is the first place I mention. That says a lot considering how many Ethiopian restaurants I pass just getting there. Definitely one of my favorites, and I’ll keep making the drive.

Still having dirrhea after couple days. I had terrible dulet and still having stomach issue after 3 days of having take out.

The service was awful, I had to walk multiple times to the waitress, the food was below average, and the music was ridiculously loud. What made it even worse was that there were literally only two families in the entire restaurant—us and another family—and they still wouldn’t turn the music down when we asked. It’s really disappointing to see a place that used to be so good go downhill this much. Terrible service, mediocre food, and an unnecessarily loud atmosphere. Definitely not what it used to be.

The food was amazing and delicious. However, the service was very poor! After the waitress gave us our menus, she never came back to take our order I had to go to her and tell her our order. After we got our food she never checked on us again. They just stayed in the back the whole time.

I had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was great. My Tequila Sunrise wasn’t made quite right at first, but they were so kind and accommodating about remaking it and the second one was absolutely perfect! I truly appreciated how nicely they handled it. Great customer service and a great experience overall!
