I ordered from Mike and Sons Sub Shop on Sunday, September 13th. My order included a Super Club sandwich with everything except the hot stuff, fries, a 9-piece chicken strip order with fries, salt and vinegar chips, a Dr Pepper, and a Diet Coke. The food itself came to around $39, and after the Uber Eats tip, my total was a little over $50.
First, I want to make one thing absolutely clear: my Uber Eats driver did a phenomenal job. The food was delivered with care, kept warm, and handled properly. I even made a point of telling Uber support not to penalize the driver in any way because the driver was not responsible for what I received.
The problem was entirely with the restaurant and the quality of the food.
The Super Club was extremely disappointing, especially for a sandwich that cost more than $15. It appeared to be made with regular sliced wheat or rye-style bread like something you could buy at a grocery store, and one of the pieces even looked like it may have been an end slice.
Another thing that stood out immediately was that the crust had not even been trimmed off. I’ve eaten club and Decker-style sandwiches for many years, and part of the traditional presentation is trimming the crust and cutting the sandwich neatly into halves, quarters, squares, or triangles so it holds together and actually looks appetizing. None of that care seemed to be there.
What really bothered me was the presentation. I could see the sandwich through the clear container before I even removed it from the brown paper bag, and it already looked like it had exploded inside the container. This was not a case of the driver knocking the food around during delivery. I had photos and video showing exactly how the sandwich arrived and provided that evidence to Uber support.
The best way I can describe it is that it looked like someone started trying to make a club sandwich, got frustrated halfway through the process, gave up, and just tossed everything into the container. Obviously, I cannot say what actually happened in the kitchen, but that is honestly what the finished product looked like.
The sandwich was sloppy, falling apart, and the toothpicks did almost nothing to hold it together. I actually had to straighten and reconstruct the sandwich myself before I could comfortably eat it. You should not have to open a $15-plus sandwich and immediately start rebuilding it just to make it presentable.
The 9-piece chicken strips were also disappointing. They had almost no flavor and were extremely bland. To me, the texture and taste came across like chicken that had been previously frozen and reheated rather than something freshly prepared. I cannot say how they were actually prepared, but that is honestly how they tasted. For roughly $15, I definitely did not feel they were worth the price.
The fries were probably the best part of the meal, and even those were just okay. I’ve had much better.
I could have also pursued a complaint over the chicken tenders, but the condition of the Super Club was my main issue and the reason I contacted Uber support. Luckily I got a partial refund as I made sure my delivery driver wasn’t penalized at all.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend being very careful about what you order from Mike and Sons Sub Shop. Between the presentation of the sandwich, the bland chicken strips, and the prices being charged, I personally cannot recommend this restaurant. If you have other options available, I would honestly order somewhere else.
