Review: Cameron's Seafood Market (Frederick, MD)
Order: Fried Ultimate Seafood Platter
Overall Rating: 7.3 / 10
If you're craving a massive seafood spread in Frederick, Cameron's Seafood Market has you covered—but the experience comes with a few caveats. I recently ordered their Fried Ultimate Seafood Platter, and while the seafood itself was an absolute hit, the side dishes and packaging left a bit to be desired.
Here is exactly what the platter included:
3 pieces of fried fish
4 pieces of fried shrimp
4 pieces of grilled shrimp
4 pieces of fried scallops
1 crab cake
French fries, coleslaw, and a roll
The Highs: Phenomenal Seafood
The proteins were fantastic across the board. Let's start with the fish—it was incredibly tasty, with a perfectly soft and flaky texture. Both the fried and grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious.
The real standouts, however, were the fried scallops and the crab cake. It is incredibly common for restaurants to overcook fried scallops, turning them into rubber, but Cameron's nailed it; they were wonderfully tender. The crab cake was just as impressive, boasting a delicate texture and excellent, rich flavor. What's not to love?
The Lows: Subpar Sides and Packaging Flaws
Unfortunately, the sides didn't hold up their end of the bargain. The french fries were a bit on the soggy side, lacking that crucial crunch you really want with a fried platter.
The biggest disappointment was the coleslaw. Not only did it have a noticeably weird flavor, but it was also packed in the same exact container as the rest of the hot food. Because of this, the coleslaw became warm—which I am absolutely not a fan of. It's a major misstep for a side dish that is supposed to be cold, crisp, and refreshing.
The Verdict:
For the seafood alone, this platter is a massive success. If they fixed the packaging to keep the cold sides separate from the hot food and dialed in the crunch on the fries, this would easily be a top-tier meal. Because of the sides, I give the Fried Ultimate Seafood Platter a solid 7.3 out of 10.
