I had an Alma birthday gift card so it was time to use it on a Saturday night. We had a reservation at 6 but arrived earlier to enjoy the Bar and some apertivos. A good list/variety of Cocktails including Zero. Dan is the Man and not only made drink recommendations but navigated the menu for us. Lessons in Alliteration and the Mezcal y Manaca were my favorites, Guayabita and Vieja Escuela were also enjoyed.
We started with the Patacon Salvaje -Calamari, avocado etc-just wanted to look at it as it was a work of art-tasty, Tequenos-their version of cheese sticks-the Guayaba sauce takes it over the top!
First course-Alma Caesar salad-order it! Brussel sprouts, kimchi dressing-enough said, Caribe Atomico-have never had scallops (thinly sliced) this way before and loved it-the sauce wants to be spicy but stops at savory and the rice cracker complimented nicely-basically a Ceviche and another must try.
Entrees-based on recommendation went with the Solomo Criollo (prime NY strip)-came out medium rare as ordered and Yuca with Chimichurri was a perfect side.
The Duck Attolado stole the show! Exquisite spiced Duck breast
over a bed of rice similar to Paella-delicious!
Service was attentive and engaged-Kez took great care of us. Prices are at a premium and rightfully so as you won’t find these creations on every corner. Perfect spot for date night!

We had the crispy chicken thigh starter, Caesar salad, duck and I can’t remember the name of the dessert but it had coconut ice cream. The food and cocktails were fantastic! The duck was my favorite. It was very tender and had great flavor. My girlfriend loved the chicken thighs and said the sauce on them was maybe her favorite sauce ever. We will be back and highly recommend.
I'll start with what to me is the most important when going to a restaurant: the food was absolutely delicious. I had the crab fricasse with a plaintain croquette--so much crab, the sauce was so good, the croquette was so yummy. I had the calimari on the plantain patties. So good. And the server was maybe trying to steer me away from the Cesar Salad to get me to try something different but I held fast and oh my goodness it was so good.
I'll start with the second part. The hostess was nice. The server was so sweet and kind and I felt like we connected. And then the owner and the chef came out to say hi and were SO gracious and sweet.
I'm trying to go to Washington Post critic Tom Seistema's last top 40 list of restaurants before he retired and this was on it. I've been to 32, and this would be in my top 10, maybe higher, I need to think about it.
Oh, and they were very kind and treated me because the silly Uber app sent my nice Uber driver to the old address. Very unnecessary because I should have checked the address, but very sweet nevertheless.
I'm looking forward to coming back! Thanks for the wonderful visit!
DON NOT COME HERE.
I should’ve listened to the lower-star reviews. The food was over-seasoned, the prices were high, and the staff gave incorrect information with confidence. There are much better options nearby. Save your money and go somewhere else.
