Terrible stop and shop. The food is fine, but there is always something that goes wrong when I come here so I just have to put the blame on management I guess. I’ve been coming here for over 2 years.
When I went a few weeks ago there was something wrong with the self-checkout and after waiting in the line for forever, finally got to the machine and after scanning 2-3 of my 5 items it had an aneurism and said theft was detected and a clerk had to come help. There was only 1 clerk and she was trying her best but EVERY SINGLE MACHINE was having the same issue so everyone was waiting for the clerk to help unlock their machine. After scanning another one (1) item after the clerk unlocking my machine, the machine DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. There was a guy across from me who was at his machine before I got to mine and was still dealing with issues as I was leaving with my 5 items. It took me 15 min to buy 5 items due to the stupid machines.
I went today and decided I would avoid the hassle of the self-checkout machines and go to a regular checkout line. The elderly lady checking out my items was mad at me for going through her line. I only had 10 items and everything was such a big inconvenience to her. She asked me if my cilantro was cilantro or parsley but was pissed off about it, smacking my cilantro on her scanner bc it wouldn’t scan and grunting and rolling her eyes as she put it in manually by pushing a few extra buttons. The bagger was also unkind. He asked me for my reusable bag by saying, “baaag” and when I handed him the bag and said, “Oh, thank you 😅” he took it from me, rolled his eyes, and grunted. THEN the lady asked me for my stop and shop card, I told her that I didn’t have it on me (at the self-checkout there’s a button to press that says forgot card) and I thought she’d just save time and push that button since she seemed so pissed that I was standing there. She said, “PHONE NUMBER 😠” and I said, “I don’t know if it’s my old one or my new one” as I was typing my current number in. It took me 2 seconds to do that and pressed enter and asked if it was the right one. She then said in a strained voice through her teeth, “it’s the one you signed up for the card with!” I told her I thought that I signed up with my new one but I guess not and she told me again to put it in and I said, “I did, did it work?” And then she aggressively pushed more buttons on the screen and grunted and repeated what she said about the original number. When I put my very old number in, it worked. She again aggressively pushed the last few buttons that she needed to as she rolled her eyes, grunted, and sighed.
I will avoid this stop and shop at all costs. It’s too uncomfortable here.

Nearly every shopping cart has a flattened wheel, the prices are practically extortionary, and the self-checkout will accuse its customers of stealing. The other day, I scanned an item, placed it in the bagging area...an error presented saying that I did not scan the item and a video replayed as though I was a criminal. I figured I must have made a mistake, the employee cleared the code and I went back scanning. I scanned a loaf of bread, heard a beep, and placed the bread in the bagging area. Again, the self checkout displayed a code and replayed a video like I was a criminal. I was absolutely mortified and refused to scan any more items at that self-checkout counter. Stop & Shop should not be allowed to operate self-checkout if they falsely accuse people of stealing. Needless to say, I recommend going somewhere else, if you have the option.
