The first Thrifty Wine & Spirits location was built in 1962 and has recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. The original owners were Roland Toups, James Melton, and Catherine Haynie. The primary focus was and still is, to provide the best prices and the best selection of wine, spirits, and beer. In the early days, the original location was operated by the owners themselves. However, as the Shreveport/Bossier market has increased in size and the number of store locations has increased, the operations of the owners have moved to a central office. Thrifty Discount Liquor & Wine currently employs approximately 150 people throughout the 15 store chain.
