Best Pomodoro I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere. I came in 4pm on a Sunday and it was quite exactly how I like it. Even though there was just one couple eating in a booth at the bar, the place was vibing. Manager Mary has a beautiful smile, Nick is a cool bartender and Chef Elliott is behind the wheels of steel keeping it real in the kitchen. Good wine selection ranging from $11-$22/glass. None of the wines are available in the grocery store which is how it should be. Obviously, the beverage manager is doing a great job. Cool upbeat music in the background, polished glasses hanging at the bar and a clean and tidy bar area. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about Gianna.

Dinner at Gianna during my recent trip to New Orleans was one of the best I’ve ever had. From the start, the staff there was very welcoming, caring and professional. All of the dishes we had were deliciously prepared, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the whole experience. It was a pleasant place that made for a great night out.

My husband recently chose Gianna Restaurant for an intimate dinner to celebrate my birthday, but the restaurant missed the mark to make our experience as special as it could’ve been. Our reservation was booked with specific details regarding my birthday, but there was no table ready for us when we arrived so we waited at the front door for several minutes despite having made a reservation and arriving on time. My husband also requested a candle be brought out with our dessert (after being told this is the only gesture they offer for birthdays — never a mention of complimentary meatballs as others have said in their reviews) to tie up the evening on a celebratory note. The candle never came. It was disappointing. The dinner felt very rushed, as if our server had a lot of more important things to do than tending to our table. Portions are small - our dessert was a larger portion than the dinner itself. I really wanted to love this restaurant as I love Italian cuisine, but it is not a cheap place to dine so paying a little closer attention to guests’ requests and reservation details, especially when they are choosing Gianna Restaurant to celebrate something special, would go a long way. I left feeling uncelebrated on my very own birthday.

First: the food. Their daily crudo was so good. A very well balanced dish I was happy to devour. I was a little disappointed it only had 3 bites for the price point, but then again this isn't a bargain buffet so steep prices are to be expected. The potatoes were excellently creamy and delicious as well. The drinks: I had the old fashioned which is always a safe bet, but this one was particularly good. It is always fun to see the countless reinterpretation of such a classic cocktail, and Gianna did not disappoint on this front. The atmosphere: A thoughtfully decorated establishment with a great feeling, and classy setting. Everything felt unique and planned. The service: I can't tell you the service was bad. Our server (Lawson, I believe) was obviously well seasoned and knew the menu and wine list intimately. As someone who worked in restaurants for 6 years and fine dining for 3, I got the impression that we were written off as a low priority. We only stopped briefly for a drink and a couple of share plates so we could try as many restaurants as we could in a night. Once he knew we wouldn't be ordering entrees and padding the PPA it seemed like he changed the tune from wine recommendations to "Will that be all?" We still received excellent service with frequent attention and professionality. I did, however, get the impression that we did not get the same service of a 4-top ordering 3 courses and a bottle of wine. All that being said, I would happily go back if given the chance. I highly recommend this restaurant for a nice night out, date night, celebration dinner, or personal treat. At the end of the day, it feels good to have good food at a good place, and Gianna does that well.

The bartender suggested I go with the Spicy Ricotta Gnocchi and I was so glad I went with his advice! The pork sausage was delish and the perfect amount of heat. Also tried the Mushroom Pizzetta, which was excellent, but very heavy on the mushroom so must be a fan of that. I Loved the rosemary pesto on it. The restaurant is very cute and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I’ll be back to try their aperitivo hour.
