Inspired by old world meat markets, Chef Donald Link + Chef Stephen Stryjewski’s Cochon Butcher in the Warehouse District specializes in house made artisan meats + sausages made on premise. The store also offers Cajun specialties from Link’s heritage like Boudin, Andouille, + Tasso, sandwiches, small plates as well as blue plate specials. Craft beers, specialty cocktails & wines round out the offerings.
Really glad I stumbled in here. Great spot.
The setup is counter service in what feels like an upscale butcher shop — nicely decorated, cool vibe, outdoor seating available. I happened to come after a rain and the staff wiped down the table and chair without me even having to ask. Small thing, but it stuck with me.
Being a teetotaler, I always notice when a place actually invests in their non-alcoholic options. Cochon had about six of them. Refreshing — no pun intended.
I ordered the Moroccan spiced lamb, the brussels sprouts, and sampled both the boudin and andouille sausages. The andouille was outstanding. The boudin was very good. The lamb was excellent — not quite at the level of a dedicated Mediterranean restaurant, but genuinely good. Brussels sprouts were a touch softer than I like them, but that's a personal preference.
The manager came out and talked about the history of the restaurant group — the oldest location is celebrating its 25th anniversary. That kind of pride in what you've built comes through in the experience. Even the little ceramic pig bowl on the table has a story — apparently flown in from Poland.
One thing that's no fault of the restaurant — the flies outside were aggressive once the food arrived. Worth knowing if you're sensitive to that.
One suggestion if anyone from Cochon reads this: offer the watermelon salad as a standalone side. I tried to order it separately and couldn't. You're leaving orders on the table.
Would absolutely recommend. Will be back.

I had the cubano sandwhich. And while everything tasted well and the ingredients were clearly top quality as they butcher/prepare their own pork products, the sandwhich's taste was flat. The cubano seemed to lack the traditional cuban mojo or it wasnt as strong as you would expect. All I could taste was jalapenos or spice in general.
Probably would go again. Wouldnt not order that.

We came on later in the afternoon on a Sunday and there was no line, we ordered and once we sat ourselves we had the food within 10 minutes. Service is very quick. We got a burger, a pulled pork sandwich, Mac and cheese, a hotdog and a side of Brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were absolutely delicious! The Mac and cheese was very bland, the pulled pork was pretty good and the burger was more of a smash burger (very thin). The hot dog was pretty bad though. There aren’t any kids menus and that was a big downside for us as we had our toddler. Overall three meals was $60 which was pricey considering one was a smash burger and one was a hot dog.

Sat at the bar and had drinks and food. Super
Chill and fun. Service great! Appealed
to my inner Star Wars nerd:) Food excellent! We shared Cuban and Moroccan sandwiches. Soooo good. Also had Mac and cheese. Not ideal to eat hot food in NOLA over summer months but was worth it. Brussels Sprouts were just OK but everything else, including drinks, were 10 for 10.

One of my favorite stops while in New Orleans. As busy as they are with locals and tourists, they always have a seat for me. This time I had the muffuletta with house-made chips. It's a different sandwich than you'll get elsewhere. The house cured meat is the star of the show not the olive mix. And for 19 bucks you get the whole freakin' sandwich. Come hungry. Paired it with a chenin blanc for the perfect lunch. Great service.
