I usually don’t leave reviews like this because I don’t like bashing restaurants or businesses, but I honestly feel like this needs to be said. What happened today was not okay, and quite frankly, it was disgusting.
My wife and I visited this restaurant in Hammond earlier this week and had a great experience. The food was amazing, the service was great, and everything was perfect. Because of that experience, I decided to come back today with my sister and my one-year-old nephew for lunch.
When we arrived today, the restaurant was busy and packed, which was understandable. We sat down, ordered our food, and everything seemed fine at first. Our waitress was honestly a little rude, but I understand that everyone can have a bad day, so I didn’t make a big deal about it.
I ordered the chicken flauta lunch plate and asked about the salsa. When my food came out, I was disappointed because it was missing several things that came with my meal previously. There was no sour cream, no cheese, and no salsa. The plate looked completely different from what I had received during my first visit.
My sister ordered a combination lunch plate and asked for sour cream on the side. We also ordered macaroni and cheese for my one-year-old nephew. The macaroni was extremely clumpy and honestly looked unappetizing, so he didn’t eat it and my sister ended up just giving him the apples.
But THIS is where the experience became completely unacceptable.
While we were finishing our food, my sister noticed what looked like a little piece of something crawling in the sour cream. Then we realized it was a LIVE COCKROACH covered in sour cream.
Yes. A cockroach.
It was fully alive and crawling around. I was so shocked and disgusted that I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing. We did not even think to take pictures or videos because our first reaction was simply, “What the hell?!”
I had to yell across the restaurant to get another employee’s attention because our waitress wasn’t nearby. The employee came over, saw the cockroach moving in the food, immediately grabbed the plate, and went to get the manager.
I will say this: the manager was extremely nice, professional, and apologetic. She came out, apologized multiple times, told us we would not have to pay for our meal, and explained that the restaurant is cleaned every night. I genuinely appreciated how she handled the situation, and I could tell she was embarrassed and concerned.
However, as nice and apologetic as she was, it does NOT make what happened okay.
A cockroach should never be anywhere near someone’s food, especially food that is being served to customers. What if that cockroach had been inside my sister’s taco or flauta? What if she had eaten it without seeing it? What if it had been in my nephew’s food? That could have turned into a serious situation.
I’m not posting this to attack the employees or the manager. I’m posting it because customers deserve to know what happened, and I truly hope the restaurant takes this seriously and investigates where this came from and what needs to be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
If you ate here today and start feeling sick, I would definitely keep this incident in mind. And if you plan on eating here anytime soon, just be aware of what happened today.
Again, I appreciate how apologetic and respectful the manager was, but unfortunately, customer service can’t change the fact that we found a LIVE COCKROACH in our food.
I really hope the restaurant gets this under control because this is something that absolutely should not be happening.
