I decided to eat here while visiting my Mom's hometown because, at one time, it was her favorite place to grab a quick bite.
That was many, years ago and I can't say that I was ever as big a fan of the place as she was.
However, as April would have been her 80th birthday, I thought it was fitting.
When I arrived, I went to wash my hands as I knew bread sticks would be a must. When my chucks stuck to the bathroom floor, it should have been a fair indicator of how my visit was going to be- but I ignored it, washed my hands. The water closet did have soap and paper towels. Positive points.
When I ordered, the young man was nice but he seems busy with whatever he was doing before I arrived. Not sure what that was.
Not cleaning any tables.
Not wiping down the place where the drinks live. But he seemed a little off put that I interrupted. I didn't have a complicated order so I am unsure why he was muffed.
For the basic alfredo and a cup of water it was over $13. I thought that was wayyyy to much for noodles and cheese sauce but- I wasn't here for the food, but the nostalgia. I sat and waited.
It took me a lap around the place to find a place without dirty dishes piled up that wasn't in the direct sun glare. I had hoped to sit so I could look outside but there were no clean table and I didn't feel like busing one myself. I settled in an inner table with my back to the glare.
The drink station where I filled my ice water was not clean. It had a variety of spills and random papers on it. I was glad the utensils came in plastic by this point.
It didn't take long before my food came. It looked as it should and the breadsticks smelled very nice. However, before I mixed the cheese on the noodles, I noticed that the plate that the noodles were one were dirty. It had some kind of something that my food didn't have and it was crusted on to the plate. GROSS. Didn't do much for my appetite, gotta say.
About that time, the mu-sack seemed really unbearably loud. What it was seemed to be some strange harpy yowl that I am unfamiliar and I could only assume might be some folk- religious song that someone's great Aunt Melda cut in the late 50's and she was in tight with whoever owned this franchise. Fingernails on a chalk board would have been an improvement in tone, style and lyrical flow. I decided that I needed to leave.
I went up and grabbed a clam container to pour the food into- and the sticks. I figured, before I did, I wanted to get more break-sticks since they would probably be the only thing I was going to eat and I had spent over $13! 😂
My cashier was a bit hesitant. He seemed a bit dubious but he did give me three more sticks. I promptly walked to the side and popped them into the other container so I could head out.
It was at this point, I did see one fellow picking up dishes from tables. I guess I had been there 20 mins. There was a couple eating who arriving just after me who were eating and a guy waiting in line, but I don't think he stayed. There had been cars in the drive thru- but not a bunch as I had arrived between lunch and dinner. A 'lull'.
I left.
The food was cold. The noodles were not really covered in cheese. The sticks were a bit old as they had a little gumminess to them, but they tasted better than the Alfredo. I won't be going back- even in town.
The dirty plate really did me in. I couldn't see a solution to it. If I complained, I get a clean plate and someone spits in my food. No thanks. I can't eat it. GAG me. No win.
And when that happens, it makes me question how clean anything is really... and I don't want to visit places, let along eat at places, that I am thinking these things. No thanks.
It had been updated- the seating and the colors - since I had last been. I have eaten at other's which did not operate in this fashion. I didn't have a good experience and I will tell people not to eat here, go to a different place. No breadstick could have saved it, I'm afraid. Sad that a place she liked so well is so different now- but now I know- and you do, too.
