I was in Nulu yesterday and of course had to swing by. The banana pudding was out of this world, every bit as good as mom made when we had a milk cow to provide endless milk and cream. I also got a slice of white cake and it was perfect. It is a heavier style cake (like a wedding cake) but that’s what the wife and I prefer. I was amazed by the assortment of baked goods in the rather small shop so I’ll have to go back. Pricing was normal for this style bakery.
I couldn’t wait for the bakery to open because I used to frequent the West Village location when I lived in New York City. I live in NULU now so I waited in line opening day. I got 3 items with the key lime bar being my favorite. The latte was a close second and I may make this my new daily coffee spot. I couldn’t leave without the banana pudding (which didn’t disappoint). Some of these reviews are so critical. The pricing is on the higher side but it fits the neighborhood and for those of us that don’t bake or still live at home, we appreciate a bakery that serves the kind of baked goods your grandmother used to make. The highlight of the bakery is the staff. Even though they were busy, the staff was friendly and personable and that is worth the price tag for me. They all seemed to be having a great time and the woman at the register (I think her name was Merideth) was bubbly and honestly set the vibe for the whole bakery - which was high energy but and welcoming. I will be back.
We went the day after the grand opening. The brownie was the only outstanding item we tried. The chocolate cake was good but nothing outstanding. The Sea Salt Caramel cookie tasted underbaked rather than chewy. We were totally underwhelmed by the magic bar which was dry, although you would have thought the coconut in the bar would have made it moist. We did not try a cupcake. They did not appeal to us because they were small; the cupcake liners were pulling away from the sides of a couple of them; and the icing was smeared on them with no clear cut pattern or style. We feel that the items in this bakery are overpriced for the quality they are offering.

I was excited to try something new here inspired from the East Coast. Im a baker myself of 35 years. So im looking at things from that aspect as well as from a chubby girl who likes sweets.
Firstly- the place is beautiful and very boutique looking. Definitely fits the esthetic for NULU. People were friendly and looked tired. You can tell they have been working hard for this opening. Great job.
However I think the desserts are a bit overhyped. I was hoping for a bit more flare.
I tried the banana pudding and a blueberry bar.
The blueberry bar..looks great. I already knew the blueberry topping was not freshly made..its pre-made. Not a negative..I was expecting that.
The cream cheese layer...needed a sour note..some lemon..to offset the sweet of the blueberry. I personally feel they could do with less blueberry. The crust was good and nutty. This is more a bar cake. I think swirling in the bluebery to the cream cheese filling would be better. Of course that's my opinion.
The banana pudding. Welll....I love banana pudding. The pre-made cup of pudding that I got however ...was smashed up. In the 5 bites I took. Only 1 banana..and soooo many wafer cookies.
The lack banana and pudding in a banana pudding dumbfounded me. I also am a texture person. I personally would rather taste my ingredients separately and mix them myself. These were made quickly..packed quickly and over cookied.
Theres a fine line in banana pudding on the amount of each ingredient to balance it great. Every southern woman here in louisville prides themselves on their banana pudding..like their macaroni and cheese. When I leave here preferring Golden Corals banana pudding over this..thats not good. I think someone needs to rewrite the pudding to fit in this Louisville demographic..
It was $13+ for both items. Not bad.
I wish I could say better on the sweets.
Unfortunately I think there are way better alternatives.
However..if you want to have a bougie coffee date. This place is perfect.
Parking- it's louisville in Nulu. Limited.

Oh how I wish I could love this place. The aesthetic is beautiful and the service was top notch. The enticing cakes and brownies and layered desserts definitely welcomed me in. They have a large variety of sweet treats. Unfortunately, the flavors fell flat. The white cake was crumbly and the frosting had an off putting fake flavor. I tried a layered dessert that included a brownie base, a whipped cream topping and snickers-style candy pieces that was also underwhelming with the overall flavor just being sweet. At $8 per cake slice, I’d recommend going to one of our other local bakeries.
