As of last night, our cat had been missing exactly three weeks to the day. We received information that a cat matching her appearance had been seen at this Chick-fil-A. When we arrived, we found a cat hiding in the bushes that looked remarkably like her. After three weeks of searching, we were finally just feet away from a cat that could potentially have been our missing pet. We were completely out of the way and were not blocking customers, entrances, the drive-thru, or restaurant operations. Some customers noticed us and asked what we were doing, and we explained that we were trying to determine whether this was our missing cat. Two employees who appeared to be in leadership came outside. A female employee wearing a blue polo suggested that we leave and return after the restaurant closed because customers were asking about us. My concern is not that management approached us. I understand their responsibility to restaurant operations. My concern was the complete lack of empathy shown to us. Another Chick-fil-A employee actually advocated for us, asking whether we should be allowed to continue trying to get the cat out of the bushes since we had been searching for her for weeks and might have finally found her. The female employee's response was essentially that the cat would be fine and we could return after closing. After exactly three weeks of searching, asking us to walk away from a cat that could have been a member of our family and simply hope she would still be there hours later felt incredibly dismissive. This interaction is especially difficult to reconcile with Chick-fil-A's Corporate Purpose: “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” Chick-fil-A's core values include “We're here to serve,” “We're better together,” “We are purpose-driven,” and “We pursue what's next.” Unfortunately, this interaction did not reflect the compassion or positive influence I associate with those values. There was a way to protect restaurant operations while still showing kindness. Something as simple as, “I'm sorry you've been searching for her for three weeks. I hope this is your cat. Please just remain out of the way of our customers,” would have completely changed the interaction. Policies and responsibilities do not prevent someone from showing empathy. I am not asking for anyone to be disciplined. I am asking that this be used as a coaching opportunity, particularly for someone in a leadership position. Another Chick-fil-A employee demonstrated compassion in the exact same situation. Unfortunately, the female leader did not. After three weeks of desperately searching for our pet, what stayed with me was the complete lack of empathy shown during a moment when a little compassion would have meant so much.
- GHGod’s Favorite HSep 12, 20261.0Hospitality is a zero. This is my second visit to this location since moving to Maize, and unfortunately, the experience has been consistently disappointing. The associates come across as rude and unwelcoming, particularly toward people of color, which makes the experience even more uncomfortable. The food is consistently cold, and the buns are often refrigerator-cold. On this visit, I was directed to pull into the bank parking lot, which was extremely inconvenient because you cannot easily get to the right side of the street from there. The associate also failed to give me my child’s ice cream cone until I specifically asked for it. I have had a bad experience every time I’ve visited this location. In comparison, the Ridge Road location provides a completely different experience—the hospitality and service there are amazing. I hope management takes the time to address the customer service and food-quality issues at this location.
