Came in last night to have a low-key birthday dinner with my boyfriend. We sat at the bar, had a half dozen oysters and some drinks to start. Unfortunately that's basically where it ended.. my boyfriend sat with an empty glass for at least 10 minutes, we were never asked if we wanted another round, we had to intentionally get her attention multiple times for service to the point we just decided to wrap up and have dinner elsewhere. Asking for and paying our check was the most interactions we had with our bartender the entire time we were there. I had never been here before, my boyfriend suggested it for his birthday and we unfortunately left quite disappointed.

I highly recommend this restaurant! To be honest I’m not the biggest fan of wood grilled meat. However, my husband loved it here! Since I don’t love the taste of the smoke; I decided to go with the prime rib. (I’m a sucker for a good prime rib) lol
LET ME TELL YOU - this was one of the best prime ribs I’ve ever had…this is coming from a rural girl whose family has been in the meat and agriculture industry for generations so huge compliment.
Our server - Logan was phenomenal. Super educated on the menu, kind, attentive without being overbearing. He is great!

Our experience at J Gilbert was wonderful. The moment we walked in we knew we were going to have a special evening. Lexi, our server, was wonderful and walked us through the menu with confidence and grace. She was also so sweet! We were celebrating my boyfriend’s sober anniversary and she really made that special for him. The manager, Chelsey, came by several times to make sure we were having a remarkable experience and it really made us feel cared for and important!

Been dining here for special occasions for 22 years (1-5 times per year). When we started the prix fixe meal was $28, now it is $65-75. Maryland Crab Bisque still tasted good, but it used to be brought to you in a large bowl and the bisque poured over the lump crab. Now it is brought in a small bowl already put together. Sour dough isn’t the same, the crust seemed off. I’ve seen the main course change from Atlantic salmon served with a filet mignon to maple planked salmon. Mashed potatoes used to be made with Yukon gold potatoes, now they taste as if from a box. Chocolate velvet cake is off the menu. Why? I believed it to have been a top seller. It tasted best with the raspberry sauce, was still good when you changed it to raspberry sherbet. Now it’s some 24 layer cake that is dry. The crème brûlée was not torched enough- no satisfying break of the crust. Or maybe it comes from a box now? Even the dishes have changed. I know that’s petty, but my dinner felt cheap when the dishes didn’t match and my mashed potatoes earned their own side dish. We dealt with the price increase each year because the quality stayed. Now the quality is cheap with a high price tag. We will find somewhere else to celebrate occasions. Service was wonderful as usual.
Exceptional Dining Experience Thanks to Ash!
We had an incredible dinner at J. Gilbert's in Overland Park, and a huge part of that was due to our server, Ash. From the moment we sat down, he was welcoming, highly attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He paced our meal perfectly, ensured our drinks and bread were always topped off, and offered fantastic recommendations. Fine dining is as much about the service as it is about the food, and Ash truly elevated our entire evening. He is hands-down the best server here! We will definitely request him section on our next visit.
