First time here and I was with my wife and 3 friends. We are from Illinois and was traveling. The food was phenomenal and very hot and fresh. Our waitress was very polite and respectful. This is a family owned restaurant and you can tell how much pride they take into satisfying their customers. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Very good hot fresh chicken and fried pickles is 10/10! 👏🏻 😎

Never heard of this place and didnt expect to even go here, however as we passed the aroma immediately drew us in. The place is beautiful clean and inviting. The service was prompt and courteous. Start to finish the food was impeccable. We had the fried okra and mozzarella sticks 10/10 for starters. We had red beans and rice, Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, hot link ribs and rib tips along with jerk wings. Perfectly smoke and seasoned. Best BBQ i have had in a long time. Best spot in town and beyond

After attending a party catered by Up N Smoke, my friends and I decided to try out the restaurant! What a wonderful, nearly hidden, gem in Michigan City! It's a cute building with a lovely abstract mural outside, and a shining, new, dining area inside. We walked in and were greeted by staff and customers alike. I don't know if this is normal for here - but we got right into the friendly atmosphere and smiled hello to people who arrived after we did. Service was friendly and relaxed, so there was plenty of time to socialize at our table. No rush, which is fine with me (since I'm used to European cafes where you can sit and enjoy yourself for hours!). If you like authentic southern style cooking (my husband grew up in rural Oklahoma, and this is exactly how his mother cooked - it's pretty much soul food too) this is the place to be! Lots of ham, bacon, and pork offerings. Delicious cornmeal friend okra for the appetizer to share, and it came out right away. Entrees took a bit longer, but pleased us all, from the lightly breaded pork chops(the special!) to the beef brisket sandwich to the bacon cheeseburger. We all had to have carryout boxes, so much food! And those sides - you could make a full meal! Collard greens (I think) with pork, red beans and rice had ham, fries, and mustard style potato salad between us. All fresh, delish and good. Get there early if you need the mac and cheese or the garlic cheese bites! For either catering or eating in - totally recommend!
The most important part of any establishment is how you are treated. Customer service was excellent from the start. Each customer was greeted and attended to quickly even while busy and left with a smile. I was given a sample at request and that was kindly satisfied. Visiting from PA…Michigan City definitely has a jewel. Much respect to the scripture visibly displayed on the counter!!
Oh that brisket sample - delicious !
Found this place by accident while I was driving around waiting to pick some friends up at the train station. Glad I did - it was actually the smell of the smoke from the cooking that made me pull over.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with sides because they were out of brisket - but this pulled pork rivaled brisket!
Chill but friendly atmosphere - definitely going to my go to when I'm traveling between Chicago and Grand Rapids.
