I gave 2 stars because the place isn’t bad at first glance—the food is as expected, the restaurant is clean, and the staff is kind, but man—whoever is running the place quite clearly cares more about making sure every last penny of profit ends up in his pocket than he does about serving the community because I have never seen a fast food restaurant operate so cheaply. My grandmother wanted to try a new blizzard flavor and got the strawberry mango. She has a hard time chewing and didn’t realize the mango was dried (making it very chewy) and she couldn’t eat it so I brought it to the counter to explain and ask if we could trade it for one she could eat. The staff member was very kind and said she wished she could help but unfortunately management wouldn’t allow it and we’d have to purchase a new one. It was clear just from the look on her face that she had come across similar situations and that there was a no-wiggle-room rule on this. Understandable—maybe it happened too many times and they were losing too much money from remaking ice creams, or at least that’s where my brain went to give them the benefit of the doubt. But then, my grandma gets something stuck in her throat and I walk up to the same staff member and ask for a cup for water and she makes an “eek” face, clearly uncomfortable having to be the messenger of these petty rules, as she says, “It’s 54 cents.” I look at her with a mixture of disbelief and understanding, recognizing that she, too, sees the absurdity of it all and has probably attempted to fight the battle more times than one. I turned around and walked out to go get a bottle of water from the car instead. Ridiculous. So much for giving the benefit of the doubt on the lack of accommodations for the blizzard issue. When a customer has an issue, it’s an opportunity to step up and show stellar service and accommodating hospitality, but here, customers are worth the cost of their meal and nothing more. I read some reviews to see if anyone else had picked up on this lack of decency and found a recent review from Amy sharing another perfect example of this establishment’s unbecoming obsession with profit taking precedence over human decency. It’s subtle, but the message comes through clearly if you pay attention—if your presence costs even a penny more (e.g. the cost of a plastic cup) than what you paid for, you are in debt to DQ. This is a small town where almost everyone knows each other. They look out for each other and support their community. This owner does not care about his own customers, much less the community at large. Unless, of course, you’re in the market for a $0.54 cup of tap water—if so, you know where to go.

When they made my blizzard, there was only toppings, additives on the first top , the bottom half was nothing but ice cream
