  My husband and I have eaten here for lunch maybe 4 other times.We usually had a good experience. Today, a Saturday for lunch, totally opposite! First I’ll mention the food. I, due to health issues, am gluten-free, dairy free and sugar free. I was happy to see that their fries are gluten-free. I asked about the crispy chicken on the menu, if it was fried, or what it was dipped in or coated with. The server said he didn’t know. He never offered to go ask, just he didn’t know. So I ordered a smash burger, no cheese, no bun and the fries.Their fries are gluten free and I had had them before and almost couldn’t quit eating them they were so good and crispy.I had had them once before and they were hard to stop eating. They were very good and crispy. This time, our burgers and fries came and the fries looked awful. They were limp, greasy, and looked like they had used bad potatoes with black spots, etc. We asked if we could have some new ones. A female server came over and asked, are they greasy or what? We told her. They bring us one new plate of fries. They look the exact same. Our server asked if these were better. I said, no not really. He leans down and says, “I think it’s because of the girl in the kitchen doing the frying”. I said, well, she doesn’t have the oil hot enough and they won’t be soggy if she did. He tells us he doesn’t like their fries anyway. Here’s the MAIN ISSUE: After that exchange, our server comes back and looks at something on our table and says,” I need to inform you that you having that violates our policy of not bringing in any outside food or drink”. He was looking at our 2 ounce bottle of monk fruit sweetener, that my husband has to use due to being diabetic and can’t have sugar and doesn’t use artificial packets of sweetener. We carry it everywhere with us because we order unsweetened iced tea. I looked at him incredulously, and said are you kidding?? We eat out daily for lunch and NEVER in 40 years has that been said. He then says, I’m not going to ask you to leave but it’s against policy. He said, if you were to get hurt by said outside food then they would be liable. What a joke! I said who’s policy? He said, the boss. I asked if he was there and he said yes. I said, “Send him out here so I can talk to him”. He said ok. Our server comes back and I said, “So is the boss coming out?” He said, “No. He declined to come out” I said, where is that policy posted? I said I want to see it. He says, uh uh I don’t have that. I told the server that if I were diabetic and had to sit here and inject insulin, there was nothing he could do about it. I said we’re leaving and will not be back and will be posting a review. As we were getting in our car, they were seating someone with a big dog just outside. Now if they’re afraid of liability, if someone gets bit by that dog on their property, he’s liable. So, be aware, don’t bring any sweetener, supplements, or medication that you may HAVE to take with food, or heaven forbid you get heartburn and pop a TUMS in your mouth. If they don’t ask you to leave, you may at least be humiliated by having others hear them tell you that you’ve brought in basically contraband.

  So, this was our 5th time eating here, but it will be our last. On the other occasions the food and service was good. Today my wife and I experienced something we’ve never experienced in about 40 years of eating lunch out, often 5 times a week since it’s kind of a day date for us. I’ll get to the main issue first and go from there. I’m diabetic and I cannot use just any sweetener for my unsweet iced tea. I bring a 2 oz bottle of natural sweetener called Monk fruit. And I discreetly put a few drops in my tea. No big deal. Some servers at various restaurants have said, “How cool.” Not today. Today near the end of the meal the server said “That violates our outside food and beverage policy. If you would get hurt we could be liable. But I’m not going to ask you to leave.” We were dumbfounded. It took me a minute to get it. ‘Our sweetener?’ “Yes.” I explained it’s just sweetener. (We actually save the restaurant money by bringing our own rather than using their sugar or artificial sweetener). That was never offered btw. Didn’t matter. My wife wondered, ‘and who said this?’ “The boss.” Again, I explained this is a medical issue. Didn’t matter. The owner or boss had spoken and evidently told the server to relay the message. I was still convinced this was just a misunderstanding and if the owner wouldn’t mind coming to the table I’d explain it. We were given our check and refills to go on tea and waited. We asked, “So, is the owner coming out?” “No, he declines to come.” So, in this litigious society someone with the same experience may choose to sue. I feel that I was discriminated against due to my medical condition. And the owner or boss lacked the respect to come and discuss it with us. If the owner was genuinely worried about being liable for something he should reconsider what he just did. Our consuming a medical product was no different than my taking my nutritional supplements (which I did, again, in a very small, discreet container). Or if a diabetic had to inject himself with insulin, would the owner say, ‘that’s an outside food, you can’t do that?’ Food-wise, was the owner upset that -for the first time in five- we asked if the cook could try again on the fries? They were greasy and soggy the first and the second time. Our server bent over and whispered to us ‘ I think it’s because the cook was a young girl in the kitchen doing the frying’. Hint: turn up the temperature on the fryer. An afterthought.. if the owner is concerned about topics for which he can be sued, they allowed a couple with a very large dog to sit and be served outside. If that dog bites anyone, it’s on you, dear owner. Btw, I owned a service business for nearly 40 years. I had people working for me who weren’t perfect and they made mistakes. But when they goofed, I took responsibility. And when a mistake happened I made it right, going above and beyond. Because I tried to show consideration and respect for my customers. What a novel idea.

  Wonderful, cozy place just minutes from the fairgrounds! This place looks to be several old storefronts converted into a restaurant. The vintage feel is preserved with decor and unpainted brick walls. The staff are very friendly and heppful. Justus (sp.?) was our server and he made great recommendations for our meal. He also noticed us praying before our meal, so he also took a few moments to encourage us in our faith. This was a refreshing reminder that Christ’s Church is united around the world. My wife and I had smash burgers with fries and our friends both opted for the daily special, which was “The Yard Bird”—a fried chicken breast sammich with fixin’s. All the food was great. We all left with full bellies and the prices were very reasonable. This place is great for newcomers to the area, but I also suspect locals would frequent this place. I recommend this place highly to anyone looking for some great food in a comfortable and cozy, vintage atmosphere.

  Great atmosphere. Ordered Philly very odd take on it bread was hard as rock meat was charbroiled definitely not great

  TLDR- avoid this place. They don’t carry basic restaurant necessities & need a visit from the health department. My entire experience here was not good. The pictures on the Google reviews looks phenomenal; don’t be fooled. I was in town for an event and choosing this for lunch was a mistake. Immediately upon receiving glasses of water we noticed their water tasted funky & BAD (compared to the tap water in Louisville). I asked for a bottled water & was informed they don’t have bottled water… I don’t drink soda so was forced to drink the nasty tap water for my meal. We ordered the crab dip for an app- it was good but 99% cheese. No chunks of crab, didn’t even have any crab visibly in it. Tried to order the coconut curry soup at 1 pm on a Saturday & they were out of it. Their menu must change often because many items listed & pictured in the google reviews are not currently on it. Got the smashburger- it was just okay. Asked for some mayo to put on there & was informed they, yet again, didn’t have any. They were playing some sermony/prayer type audio on the speakers. To top everything else off: during the meal I noticed something from the ceiling kept dripping onto our table.. we had to move stuff out of the way to avoid the splashes getting on the food. We brought this to the attention of our waitress who said “Yeah we know, we’re getting it fixed soon” …. So, they knowingly sat us at a table with contaminated condensation splattering on it despite there being PLENTY of empty tables when we came in. Health department needs to check this place out. If they’re knowingly seating their customers at tables with ceiling water dripping down into the food lord knows what they have going on in the kitchen behind closed doors. Will never be back
