- JAJames Anderson6 days ago5.0I loved Pappadeaux’s pre-Covid. The seafood was delicious and their huge, loaded dessert platter, presented at the end of your meal, was a show stopper. Right after Covid, the food and service fell dramatically. I recently went to revisit Pappadeaux with my family on a busy Friday night. We were seated immediately and our waitress, Kaira, was friendly, professional, efficient and did the little things right, despite the large crowd. We ordered the fried calamari with octopus and roasted oysters for appetizers. The calamari was nicely crisp on the outside and very tender inside, though the batter was slightly salty. The roasted oysters were a total winner. The butter, lemon sauce perfectly complemented the roasted, rich taste of the oysters. For entrees I had the fried soft shell crabs while my daughter and her boyfriend had the white fish and salmon respectively. Both were topped with shrimp, crab scallops in a tasty sauce. I like how we were able to substitute our sides. Everyone had the dirty rice which was tasty but a tad dry. My 3 yr old grandson had the grilled shrimp with fries. The seafood dishes were a home run as was the delicious bread pudding. Overall Pappadeaux’s food didn’t suffer from the large crowd and our experience was very good. However, a couple of caveats. The large crowd left the bathrooms a disgusting mess. My daughter didn’t even want to use the bathroom until she got home. I get it. Larger crowd makes a bigger mess. But a messy bathroom in a food restaurant does not shine a positive light on the restaurant. The other caveat was that we waited 20 minutes for our dessert. We decided to cancel our dessert at that point, whereupon, Kaira was so apologetic and brought the issue to the manager. We were then able to take home the dessert anyway, free of charge. That part is kudos to the manager and Kaira. If a bump in the road occurs, still take care of the customer. I still miss the many desserts Pappadeaux used to have, but the overall experience was still a winner.
- DJdouglas st johnAug 15, 20264.0food was absolutely fantastic....all of it. We went on a Monday night. Two of the specials they were out of, which was disappointing. Bar service was not good. Our pre dinner drinks took over 30 minutes to serve and our bottle of wine came half was through the main courses. These should be easy layups ...our server and manager were apologetic and comp'ed a desert. Disappointing and when you spend $400 there should be flow of food and drinks. However, the food was great and staff supportive. I will return and expect perfection next time!
- TTToraAug 15, 20262.0I am in the area for work and, as someone who frequently visits various locations in the Houston area, I have to say that the level of service there is unmatched compared to this location. This is my second visit to this location, and unfortunately, my experience with the bar service has been consistently disappointing. The staff appeared to be more focused on processing drink tickets than attending to customers seated at the bar. Customers sitting at the bar should receive the same level of attentiveness and service as those seated at tables. During my visit, I observed several people leave because they were not greeted or acknowledged. What was particularly concerning was that there were at least four employees working in the bar area at the time. With that level of staffing, customers should not feel ignored. Unfortunately, based on my experiences during both visits, this will be my last time visiting this location.
- AFAlexis FieldsAug 9, 20263.0I visited Pappadeaux on both August 2nd and August 9th and unfortunately had the same disappointing experience with our server, Nia J on both occasions. Both times, she came across as annoyed and dismissive and would disappear for extended periods. We made it clear that we were dining at the bar, but after taking our drink orders, she would be gone for 20–30 minutes at a time, leaving us wondering who was going to take our food orders or assist us. What concerned me even more were some of the things I observed while sitting at the bar. I witnessed her tasting customers’ drinks using straws, which I found very unsanitary and inappropriate. There were also issues with guests not receiving silverware and food orders being mixed up. When incorrect food needed to be replaced, it was left sitting out at the bar rather than being promptly removed, even with flies around the food. I understand that restaurants get busy and everyone can have an off day, which is why I didn’t immediately judge my first experience on August 2nd. However, returning on August 9th and experiencing the same lack of attentiveness and professionalism was extremely disappointing. I enjoy Pappadeaux, but the service I received on these two visits was unacceptable and took away from the overall dining experience. Based on both encounters, I do not believe Nia demonstrated the level of attentiveness, professionalism, or sanitation awareness that should be expected from someone serving customers. He took the time to listen to my concerns and made me feel heard. He was compassionate understanding and genuinely kind throughout the conversation. I really appreciate it how professionally he handled the situation in his willingness to assist me. His positive attitude and care made a stressful experience much better thank you for going above and beyond. I hope that DeShawn receives a recognition that he deserves for his outstanding customer service.
