  This place has great food, and the staff is always friendly. I don’t come here very often, but every time I do, there’s a homeless man hanging around near the entrance. The last time I visited, which was just a few days ago, he was there again. He wears some very strange attire, usually draped in an American flag, and he is always shirtless. Sometimes he throws empty bottles or flips people off. He has wild hair, missing teeth, and calls himself "Joni." Seriously. He also blasts obnoxious music on this speaker and is clearly intoxicated. My office coworkers and I always joke about him because we see him there so often. He must be a very unusual regular. That said, the restaurant itself is excellent. The lines are never too long, and the chocolate cake is awesome.

  I walked into Portillo’s and was immediately hit with that familiar fresh, warm smell that makes you actually excited to eat. The place had a lively energy, but there was also a very long line, which is pretty typical for this location. Despite the wait, the ordering process moved steadily and I eventually got my hot dog. It was solid overall—simple, classic, and done right. Nothing over the top, but definitely satisfying and exactly what you expect from Portillo’s. I’d give the food a strong 4 stars. It delivered on what it’s known for. Outside the restaurant, there was a strange situation involving a homeless man who refers to himself as “Joni.” He was loud and very noticeable, and I had seen him during a visit about three weeks ago as well, so it made me wonder if he is often there. He has a big presence and a huge appetite, and while he did verbally harass me in a weird, almost joking way, it didn’t feel threatening, just unusual and hard to make sense of. Overall, Portillo’s itself was still a good experience with solid food and efficient service, even if the surroundings outside were a bit strange and memorable in their own way.

  This morning I needed 2 full cakes for a work Birthday. I ordered on-line. Went to the Portillos down the street. They did not have my order. Once I checked my confirmation email, I found that I ordered from a different location.😒. Joe, the manager was so very helpful! Instead of me having to go through the hassle to cancel, then reorder, Joe called the other location and took care of the cancelation. He then packaged up my order and I was on my way in no time. I very much appreciate that Joe went above and beyond to help correct MY mistake.
