Unfortunately, the Sycamore location just doesn’t live up to what it used to be. I stop in about once a year hoping things have improved, but last night was more of the same. I ordered an Italian beef, and the portion was honestly disappointing—it was so small it looked more like a hot dog than a proper sandwich. I even brought it to the manager, who weighed it with a few others, handed it back, and said it was “fine.” That was frustrating, because it would’ve taken very little effort to just make it right. The quality hasn’t been great either. The beef had a lot of gritty, bottom-of-the-barrel bits, and the food is often lukewarm at best. Even the soda fountain was off—too much seltzer, barely tasted like Coke. To be fair, the service itself is usually friendly, and the restaurant is clean with a decent atmosphere. But that’s not enough to make up for consistently underwhelming food. At this point, I’m not sure why I keep giving it another shot every year—maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s hope—but it’s getting harder to justify coming back.
