I have been shopping at this Jewel-Osco location for several years, but my experience over the last year and a half has become increasingly disappointing. For the past two years, I have repeatedly experienced rude and disrespectful treatment from Jackie, who works in the front-end/customer service area of the Jewel side of the store. Unfortunately, the situation has continued to get worse, especially over the last three to four months.
I attempted to handle this situation the proper way by following the chain of command. I contacted Jewel-Osco corporate customer service multiple times using the customer service number provided. Each time, I provided the store information and was told that my concerns would be forwarded to the store GM manager, Cale Clay, and that he would contact me. I was asked whether I preferred a phone call or email, and I requested a phone call. Despite being told that the store manager was notified, I never received a call, email, or any type of follow-up from him.
My most recent experience with Jackie was extremely upsetting. I was at self-checkout and needed assistance because items from the Jewel app, including my clipped coupons, were not applying correctly at the register. A self-checkout employee attempted to help me but needed additional assistance, so he contacted Jackie. When she arrived, we made eye contact, but I felt that I was intentionally ignored. I waited approximately 15–20 minutes while she assisted other customers.
I eventually walked over to the customer service desk and waited patiently until she finished helping another customer. When I asked if she could call a manager, I felt that my request was ignored. After repeating myself, the interaction escalated, and I was spoken to in a disrespectful manner, including being called stupid and being told that she could not help me and that I should leave.
No customer should feel singled out, bully, ignored, or disrespected when they are simply trying to shop and receive assistance. Employees should treat all customers with the same level of professionalism and respect.
After this incident, I again contacted Jewel-Osco customer service and requested that the matter be escalated to a district manager. I followed up multiple times over the course of a month, and I still did not receive a response from either the store manager, Cale Clay, or anyone from the district management team.
This is extremely disappointing because I have been a loyal customer. I did not want to leave a negative review, but after repeated attempts to resolve this privately through the proper channels, I feel that my concerns have been ignored. I hope Jewel-Osco takes this matter seriously and addresses the customer service issues at this location.
