Food: Yawn. Another corporate chain replicating sameness at over thousand restaurants in 20 countries. This non-local gem offers an expected, on par familiar fare expected in any Outback without the distinctive flavor we tasted in Australia. Were the menu Australian, camel and crocodile’d be on it. Real Australian would have Vegemite for toast and Victoria Bitter, Castlemaine’s XXXX Gold, or Toohey’s Old on tap. Still, three but almost two, stars for average Americanized “Australian” food, it’s hard to go wrong with bacon, shrimp on the barbie, and savory steak. Average buttery mashed spuds with above average cinnamon sugar. Other reviews are bang on to point out there’s a wee bit freeboard on bar drinks, with several inches, evidence of corporate skimpiness, between the rim and meniscus (fill line, see photo). Average tenderness in the steak. Average in getting the order right. Average fresh baked bread for your tucker bag. Below average freshness in the salad, with slightly wilted lettuce. For more stars, Outback could serve damper bread made over a campfire, honoring local history of the original settlers down under without access to refrigeration or fresh yeast. Three stars for a fun kiddie cocktail with a shark full of grenadine, our seven year old went bonkers for the shark toy. Service Four stars for above average service characterized by interpersonal, human service in an era of artificial, depersonalizing technology. Our hostess kindly held the door for our family with three wily wombats, thank you. The hostess showed consideration by intelligently selecting a table spatially distant from other diners on account of young kids who can cause a ruckus. Four stars for wait staff showing above average patience when our buckaroo kiddos played energetically around the booth, pulled on the window shades, and wandered into the outback on their own walkabout in the bush. Corporate chains have millions to sink into advertising, with flashy ads of mouthwatering steaks sizzling over glowing flames, local gems don’t. Although corporate, Crystal Lake's location surprisingly treated us like a name, not a number. Atmosphere Three stars for a sparking clean restaurant, bar area with a surface accessible for people with disabilities (probably required by law) and tastefully restrained decor to go with an Americanized Australian theme. Three stars for a baby changing table in the men’s room. Discount for playing a didgeridoo? Not on your life, mate! Those electronic screens at every table are more of a distraction than an enhancement to the dining out experience. As Americans, we were pleasantly surprised when Australian restaurants didn’t push the check on your quickly to turn over tables and maximize profits. Australians would consider this rude because you were expected to enjoy socializing over a meal and lingering. We’re too reliant on tech, it didn’t work, and the manager kindly assisted us in redeeming Zift gift card for the check. It’s annoying when the tabletop computer payment system says, “oops, there was a problem,” but three stars for redeeming an otherwise lower star experience without blaming the customer and getting the thing to work.

Had lunch Aug. 7, 2026. Husband was looking forward to a burger. Well what a disappointment. The burger had grizzle so bad my husband kept picking it out of his teeth. He ordered med, I ordered med rare and it was very uncooked. Afraid to send it back becaues you don't know what will happen to the food. The mushrooms were good. The bar was very sticky so we had to use our napkins as protection from the service. Must use something very harsh to clean , I'm hoping. So we'll skip the Crystal Lake location for a good while. Spending $70 plus tip for two you would expect quality food. Very disappointing

Did online order on app easy peasy. And pickup was quick right at the pick up time.
