  TenGoku is one of my absolute favorite neighborhood spots. I’m a regular at this point, and for good reason. The flavors are consistently amazing, the sushi is incredibly fresh and high quality, and everything coming out of the kitchen arrives piping hot. We usually order a variety of small plates and sushi, and there honestly isn’t a miss. The crispy rice with spicy tuna is an absolute must-try and one of the things I find myself craving over and over again. The space itself is such a great little spot near the West Loop, with convenient street parking, and the staff could not be friendlier. Special shoutout to the manager, Sheila, who is truly the MVP and one of the sweetest people. She always makes us feel so welcome. TenGoku is a gem and easily one of my go-to restaurants in Chicago. If you haven’t been yet, go!

  The Saturday brunch felt extremely overpriced. The buffet had only around 10 items, yet my first bill came to $55 plus a 20% service fee. For that price, I expected a much larger selection and a substantially better experience. To make matters worse, I developed diarrhea shortly after the meal and experienced it for the next three to four hours. I cannot say for certain what caused it, but the timing was concerning. Overall, the brunch was disappointing and not worth the price.

  Please don't waste your money, avoid the Saturday brunch buffet. I've had great culinary experiences here for dinner before and as a result was very excited to try their brunch. Suffice it to say you're paying Michelin prices for Golden Corral quality of food (total bill for buffet, a 300ml bottle of bride of the fox not 720 like the bill said, and handrolls for two was $293.80). There were three palatable items, miso soup, the sake, and the ebi nigiri. From there it was all down hill. Dry chicken breast skewer, disgusting egg sando, and the most pitiful hamachi handroll I've ever had. The ginger was dried out and inedible like it had been left out overnight. I'm not a complainer so after 1 of each of those items I paid the bill and left. That being said I have to write this review because I would hate to see others waste their money on such a deplorable food experience. Staff were polite, warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself was clean and had a nice Playlist in the background. The food was so bad that a 1 star is the best I can do. Edit: the restaurant called to say that they fixed the bill for the sake about an hour after this was posted.
