Well worth the $$ for the culinary experience.
We did the Omakase(17 course Edo style)Top marks across the board
•Food- normal Sushi but elevated quality and flavors, every course was delicious
•Presentation- Sushi bar style (sitting at a normal bar) prepared courses right in front of you.
•Service- Staff was very attentive and friendly

We had over ten Omakase in NY, twenty in Japan and China. The food here is the worst among all we experienced. Our expectations are high, but this one is a little bit off. The rice had too much water when cooking, makes it soggy. The lean tuna has tendon, hard to chew. Quality of fish is very bad. With this price in New York, you can get sea urchins. Given the price, I’m disappointed.

The food at Sushi by Bou was good, but the service left us feeling really disappointed, especially given the price point and the occasion. My wife and I came here hoping for a romantic night out and paid around $300 for the 17-course experience, but by the end of the meal we felt rushed, overlooked, and disrespected.
We arrived early for our seating, yet we were seated last. When we arrived, we also had to wait about 15 minutes because the prior seating was still finishing up, which we understood at the time. What felt frustrating was that once our meal ended, a gentleman came over almost immediately and told us we needed to leave because the next seating was waiting. This happened while another couple from our same seating was still sitting nearby, ordering and eating casually. It felt awkward and unfair to be singled out and pushed out the moment we finished.
To make matters worse, I realized at the end that the 17-course meal was supposed to include a kanpai drink tasting. We never received it. When I asked about it, I was told that we had received it at the beginning of the meal, which we definitely had not. Perhaps we were overlooked because we were seated last, but that was not our fault, especially since we had arrived early. The staff did eventually bring out the drinks after I asked, but there was no apology or acknowledgment that they had missed part of the experience we paid for. Instead, we were made to leave our seats and drink the shots by the bar, even though other guests from our seating were still eating.
The sushi itself was enjoyable, but the overall experience did not match the cost or the atmosphere we expected. At this price, service matters. We should not have had to remind the staff about an included drink, and we certainly should not have felt rushed out immediately after finishing while others were allowed to linger. Unfortunately, the ending made the experience feel more like we were being processed than welcomed as diners.
I would not recommend Sushi by Bou for a romantic night out. The food was good, but the service and hospitality fell well short of what I would expect from a $300 omakase experience.

We choose to go to the Gold Coast Chicago location. The place is small and intimate with Art deco lounge atmosphere and energetic music. We were able to join one of their bluefin tuna carving event. Where the chefs cut and break down the whole tuna and serve the guest fresh cut sashimi, nigiri and handrolls. We were a party of and some of us were able to participate in scrapping the tuna meat from the bones.
The event is all you can eat. There was so much food that we had to turn down Chutoro and Otoro. Can you believe that.
Sake is served at the event or you can purchase cocktails.
