I had the pleasure of dining at the new Soul Vibes on Wells on my last vacation night in Chicago. I had the blackened catfish, accompanied by macaroni and cheese and collard greens prepared with turkey. My husband opted for the lamb chops, asparagus, and beans and rice. We found all the dishes to be exceptionally well-seasoned. The collard greens, in particular, reminded me of my own recipe, with a barely perceptible hint of vinegar, which I greatly appreciate. The service we received was outstanding. As we did not have reservations, we were seated at the bar. The only minor point of concern was the air quality, which felt rather poor, and the interior was quite warm and humid. Several patrons appeared to be fanning themselves due to the heat. Despite this, I would gladly return and would consider bringing a small fan to enhance my comfort while enjoying the meal. The ambiance was pleasant, perhaps a bit excessively pink, but it was charming and offered good photo opportunities. Nevertheless, the food and service were truly exceptional.

I’ve been a repeat customer of this restaurant and have recommended it to many people over the years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. First, I want to make it very clear that our server, Valentino, was awesome. He was attentive, personable, and did everything he could to make our experience pleasant. If you visit, I would absolutely recommend asking to sit in his section. Unfortunately, the issues we experienced had nothing to do with his service. The food and overall dining experience, however, were extremely disappointing. We ordered two plates of miso salmon with crab/ lobster fried rice, totaling approximately $96. The fried rice was severely undercooked. We sent it back and gave the kitchen an opportunity to correct it, but the second attempt was just as bad—the rice was still undercooked, and this time there wasn’t even crab/lobster meat in the crab/lobster fried rice. To make matters worse, we were seated at the corner table on the right-hand side directly underneath the AC unit, and condensation actually dripped from the unit into our drink. That alone is unacceptable in a restaurant. We were given a $40 discount on the two entrées, and I agreed to pay the remainder of the bill. While I appreciated the adjustment, it did not change how disappointing the experience was. After waiting for the food to be prepared twice and still not receiving an acceptable meal, it felt like a complete waste of our time and $150. What makes this particularly frustrating is that I have supported this restaurant repeatedly and have confidently recommended it to others. I expected much better. Unfortunately, after this experience, I would rather make the trip to the Orlando Park-area location than return to this one. This was an incredibly disappointing experience from a restaurant I previously enjoyed and recommended.

As the same goes everything that glitters ain’t gold. The food was flavorful although the seasoning may be a bit heavy for those who prefer more subtle flavors. My biggest disappointment was the drink pricing. I ordered the Velvet Groove for $19 with DJ Blanco tequila and asked to substitute DJ Reposado from the same brand. A comparable cocktail on the menu, the Pineapple Slow Jam, is $21 with DJ Reposado, so I expected a small upcharge. Instead, I was charged an additional $8, bringing the cocktail to $27. I had not ordered an extra shot—I had only requested a substitution. My server was very nice and explained that Blanco is $14 per shot and Reposado is $16, which made the $8 upcharge difficult to understand given the $2 difference. The entrées were also poorly timed. My branzino arrived about ten minutes before my companion’s meal, and I was essentially encouraged to eat it before it got cold.

So I heard that there is three different locations and the customer service we received. I wish I had picked a different location. Now, I’m not sure if this is the way the staff is trained however, almost no one on staff, cracked a smile with the exception of a couple one or two… With it being a popular spot rather for brunch, lunch or dinner… The communication between staff and the line outside was insane. No one was aware that they had to put their name on A LIST in order to be seating. With a line that long there should have been better communication. The menu will tell you that seating is no more than 90 minutes per table, however, after the hour and a half it took us to get into the restaurant and then seated… Appetizers came out right away while FOOD took about an hour and a half. Not only did our waitress disappear another server came over to close the deal and then asked me to cover myself because they had a dress code. Meanwhile, women were walking in with shorts up their butts and cheeks out, but my think top offended him (🤔) The positive side to this outing was that the aesthetics were absolutely beautiful, and although FOOD took forever to come out as if they had one chef and one sous chef… the food was delicious.

I came to Soul Vibez Signature for my birthday brunch and had the BEST time! 🎉 We couldn't get a reservation, so we decided to go as walk-ins. We got there right when they opened at 1 PM, and there was already a line of at least 50 people! 😳 Once we got inside, we still had to wait about another hour for our table. Luckily, we found a cute spot nearby to hang out while we waited. We expected there to be a wait, so honestly, it was all good! Once we were seated, everything was a 10/10 experience. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful bartender/server who knew exactly what to recommend. He definitely knew the menu! The soul rolls and charbroiled oysters STOLE THE SHOW! 🔥 They were SO flavorful and delicious. We honestly could've eaten so many more of them! We also got the jerk wings, which were good. They recommended the Hot Honey wings, and I have slight regrets that we didn't listen 😂. We got the hot honey on the side, and OMG... it was AMAZING! So good! Definitely getting the Hot Honey wings next time. 😂🍯🔥 The lamb chops were tasty, although they were a little smaller than I expected. We shared the dish, but honestly, I'd say it's better suited for one person. The mac & cheese and collard greens, though? PERFECT. No notes!! 👏🏽 Overall, we had an amazing time! The vibes were great, the music was wonderful, and the menu literally had me craving to come back before I even left. That's always a good sign! I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Definitely a spot I'd recommend! ❤️🔥
