The space is beautiful and the music was everything! I had the lemon drop flight which was really good. I ordered the grilled oysters with lobster and honestly those were just ok for me. I think it was too much cheese and I didn't taste the oyster at all. Then I ordered the grilled jerk branzino and I was so shocked that I didn't really like it. I heard nothing but great things about this dish so I was really surprised at that. The garlic mashed potatoes were really good. I ended up getting the lamb chops, greens, and yams instead and both sides were really good! The flavor of the lamb chops were really delicious but I wasn't a fan of how much fat was on each lamb chop. For the amount of money, I hate that I had to pick through the fat so much just to get to the meat. Made me feel like I wasted 70% of the lamb chops. Some people are ok with fat but I simply cannot do it. Also gratuity was already included in the bill for a party of 2. I didn't know this so I tipped my server twice and had to wait a couple days to get my money back because they refused to give it back in cash, which I didn't understand. For a $170 for just me, I would have liked to have had no complaints. Those things aside I had a nice experience.

This place was an absolute vibe!!! The food is not hyped up and I mean!! Everything was 10/10 . My husband and I were here for our anniversary and Jillian took amazing care of us. She was very attentive, quick with checking on us, quick in general, recommended great things and places (the catfish especially), very sweet and kind, she made our visit amazing. The music is also fire! We enjoyed and will be back. We started calling our parents to tell them how good it was and how we need to come back as a family! Lol it’s so worth it!!! Side note: don’t let our price fool you, we ordered a lot and love food! It’s very reasonable

After being seated, the server took our drink and appetizer order which included charred oyster flight. The 2 appetizers came almost immediately then drinks followed. Expected the oysters to come shortly after. Placed order for our entrees...still waiting on oysters. Our server was nowhere to be found. We asked 2 bussers who inquired about the oysters and were told they were working on them. STILL NO SERVER! We had to get her attention as she serviced other tables. At this point we're already an hour and 15 minutes into our 90 min table time. NO OYSTERS NO FOOD! Other patrons receiving meals who were seated after us. Food finally comes, not hot catfish overcooked but STILL NO OYSTERS. FINALLY our waitress, GIANNA, and her bad attitude show up! We informed her we no longer wanted the oysters but we were missing a food item only to be informed they were out. We asked for a mgr at this point because you want me to pay 18% gratuity for this?! Bill was over $300 for reference. Mgr says he had to call the owner to determine what could be done then he DISAPPEARS! Gianna finally comes over with no accountability..we just said let us pay this bill so that we could leave. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

To be honest, I am very hard on soul food restaurants. Most people who cook are hard on restaurants but soul food is my jam, so it's gotta be right! You will need to make a reservation for this place. We got lucky and found a parking space right on the street, but a parking garage is not far. It is downtown, so parking might be an issue.Just get there early. Once inside, we were greeted by a very friendly host. We were seated, and our waitress came moments after. It is very well decorated. A great amount of attention and care was put into the ambiance. Everything from the music playing to the artwork and even selfie opportunities definitely created a vibe! BUT how about the food? I ordered a Watermelon Noir. The waitress assured me that it was going to be a hit... and yes, it was!! Sweet yet tangy, yet sweet. I ordered the fried catfish with sweet potatoes, greens, macaroni and cheese and cornbread. (My go-to meal) if a restaurant can do that right, they can do anything! This food was so doggon good! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The greens were perfectly seasoned. I tasted at least three cheeses in the macaroni and cheese. The sweet potatoes were sweet without being too sweet with just the right amount of cinnamon and nutmeg. The fish was fried to perfection and seasoned very well without being salty. The only thing I would say is that they could have done better on the cornbread. It tasted like it may have been made from a mix, not from scratch. I expected better, considering that the rest of the meal was so so so so so so so so wonderful, so I'll give them a pass. I almost needed a cigarette after that meal 🤣 it was close to being a religious experience! It was my birthday so they brought out a little scoop of ice cream with sprinkles and a festive sparkler. I have to say that it is really a REAL VIBE, a soul tie! This place gets me! We visited the washroom, and even there, it was a vibe. You know how we like to take our pictures in the washroom. They thought of that too. It was clean and well kept with a selfie backdrop. The front section of the restaurant is open. For the people seated in front of the window area, it's almost like being outside, without being outside. As far as accessibility is concerned, a person in a wheelchair could very easily enter the restaurant, but there is going to be a problem, If they can't be seated in the lower section, or if they have to go to the washroom. I don't know if there is an elevator but the washroom is down a level. Just a few stairs, but a person in a wheelchair might have a problem going to the washroom alone. The staff was very friendly, very helpful. Food came out hot and in good time. Our server was courteous and attentive without being overbearing. I understand that they have another location in Orland but this is their signature location. I don't get downtown very often, but this will be a destination that I'll be willing to travel to again and again. Bravo and brava! I love this place. Perhaps you will too.

A friend found this place on social media and we were really excited to try it out. She made a reservation for 8 o'clock on a Friday night. We arrived almost 10 minutes late and yet, had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. When we were seated, it was in a very small nook upstairs behind the bar. For starters, the area is a fire hazard. The tables and chairs in this area were so close together, it felt like we were doing family style dinner. I actually had to stand up to allow someone nearby to pass me for a bathroom break (like when you're on a plane). It was very uncomfortable and awkward. I couldn't relax and enjoy my meal because I was constantly looking over my shoulder for who needed to pass me. For reference, I'm about slender woman and my chair was tucked as far as it would go. Secondly, my server was very sweet and friendly. I don't know if she just started the job because there were some key things she didn't know: she didn't know tequila from vodka, what the asterisks on the menu meant or what the friend green tomatoes were cooked in. We ordered fried green tomatoes and lobster deviled eggs for appetizers. The deviled eggs were too sweet but the lobster was good. The fried green tomatoes were perfect for our taste but had a kick to them and which was not indicated on the menu that they were spicy. We also ordered the lemon drop flight. I have no complaints on the drinks. Perfect job. After the appetizers, we were mostly full so we opted to share one meal: jerk garlic butter branzino. I was uber excited because I'm a big fan of branzino and have never had it jerk style. I was disappointed to hear that it came with no sides. Not even a bed of rice. Even more disappointed when they brought it to there table and they had just dropped a bunch of peppers on top and they added no flavor to the fish. It was just a pretty, colorful topping. The garlic butter sauce was tasty, but there was very little of it. I ordered the collared greens and sweet potatoes for sides. The sweet potatoes were cooked well, but had completely lost the flavor of a sweet potato and tasted like marshmallows and yet I didn't see a single marshmallow. In my family, we cook marshmallows in our sweet potatoes, but the sweet potatoes don't lose their flavor all together. The collard greens were pretty good. I liked that they cooked it with turkey instead of pork and were seasoned well. The music was really good and I found several of us singing along. I was disappointed that they turned the music off on us. We asked if they were closed and were told the kitchen was officially closed but we can stay enjoy our meal... but the music? The decor was beautiful and everything looked fairly new and clean. I loved the aesthetic. It was just everything was so close together. I understand trying to make the size work for you. I wish they had used the size and made it more exclusive. Had only about 20 tables instead so people had to make reservations if they wanted to get in. All of the staff were very kind and friendly. They were smiling and joking with us. They cleaned the tables very quickly and were responsive. It took our server a bit getting back to us and admittedly, the place was busy. Also, this was pricey for a meal for 2 people in my opinion. We spent $185 with having ordered only one entree. Furthermore, they automatically charged 20% gratuity. It was not noted in the menu nor when she greeted us. I understand why some restaurants do this and I feel for the service community in this economy. I also think it's necessary to advertise this your patrons before they make the reservation and upon arrival. To add insult to injury, they charge you a 3% fee for using a credit card. I found this to be obnoxious. Likely 85% of your customers pay with credit card. All & all, it wasn't a bad experience. There are always areas for improvement. I won't likely be back but I won't deter others from having their own experience. If you're going, perhaps give their Happy Hour a shot.
