About

American Restaurant
Somerset brings the bold, vibrant spirit of the Mediterranean to the heart of the Gold Coast at Viceroy Chicago. Rooted in the rich traditions of Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, Somerset blends old-world flavors with a fresh, modern edge. Warm spices, bright herbs, and stone fire breads define Chef Verlord Laguatan's menu designed for sharing and discovery. With every bite, you’ll taste the dance of zesty harissa, smoky zaatar, and the earthy warmth of pistachio and dukkah. Paired with curated wines, inventive cocktails, and a chic, inviting atmosphere, Somerset transforms every meal into a dynamic celebration of flavor, culture, and connection.

The food here is consistently excellent, and it's one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Every meal has been fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The service is generally good, with friendly servers, though they can occasionally be a bit difficult to find during busy times. The atmosphere is stylish and modern, and I really appreciate the way the space has been designed. The only downside is that it can get quite noisy inside, making conversations a little challenging. During the summer, sitting on the outdoor patio is a much better option. It's more relaxing, perfect for people-watching, and makes the overall dining experience even more enjoyable.

I had brunch at Somerset during my visit to Chicago, and it was one of the best dining experiences of my trip. The restaurant has a bright, stylish atmosphere with beautiful décor that feels both modern and relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind. I ordered an avocado toast with a side of crispy breakfast potatoes and a fresh latte. Everything was beautifully presented, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh. The flavors were simple but well-balanced, and the portions were just right for a satisfying meal. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made thoughtful recommendations when I asked about the menu. Even though the restaurant became busy, I never felt rushed. One tip: if you're planning to visit for brunch on the weekend, make a reservation ahead of time since it gets popular. If the weather is nice, ask for outdoor seating—it makes the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Somerset. Thank you to the entire team for the delicious food, outstanding service, and welcoming atmosphere. I’d happily return on my next visit to Chicago.

This place has a great upscale bar and restaurant atmosphere that feels stylish yet comfortable. It is the perfect setting for meeting up with friends, enjoying a casual date night, or simply relaxing with good food and drinks. The vibe strikes a nice balance between lively and laid back. The food was really good, and the service made the experience even better. The bartender was courteous and checked in at just the right moments, making sure everything was going well without being intrusive. That level of attentiveness was definitely appreciated. Between the great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service, this is a spot I would happily recommend. You will not be disappointed.

Adjacent to Viceroy Hotel; great location. Somerset is pretty inside. Fully stocked bar. I ate here three times over the course of four days. Crystal was nice on Friday. Back on a Sunday; sat way in the back room, near kitchen. That one server, whose name I forgot was bad. She just seemed like she was on a different field. So distracted. So slow. She was not good. I asked for a cup of regular coffee and she said they ran out. I said: how? She said: we just did. She offered me something else. I talked to a manger who seemed baffled and went in the back and made another fresh pot of coffee. The previous Friday ; I was served cold coffee instead of hot. I was told: “we gave you the leftovers in the last pot.” I said “why?” Oh because it’s the last pot. They went back there and made another fresh pot. I don’t know what the real deal here is but this left a bad impression. Yes, the cheese and spinach omelette was good. The chocolate croissant so tasty. I tried their calamari and it didn’t disappoint. Turkey club on point. Burger was okay. Would I come back just to eat? NO. Fix your internal coffee issues and don’t let your patrons drink old and / or cold coffee they didn’t ask for. Better yet; never deny a coffee drinker a good solid cup of coffee. It’s so easy to make us happy with this one thing. Happy. Summer everybody!
