  Ordered drinks, mussels appetizer (ok) and chicken bites (good) appetizer. Eggplant entree was good,1/2 chicken entree was good, The skirt steak was just OK. The prime $79 steak was ordered med rare. It was delivered very rare with little to no sear on the outside with a tendon down the middle that made for difficult cutting. It was absolutely flavorless. I had 2 others at the table sample it and they agreed that it was not good tasting Midwestern beef nor prepared well. Out of respect to my hosts who recommended RH, I didn't want to embarrass them by making a scene. I will not return nor recommend this place. I know good steaks and was looking forward to a delicious 16 Oz Midwestern steak and this did not fit the bill.

  I booked this place bc of the tons of good ratings… husband, son and I went for lunch the actual establishment is large and very tastefully decorated. My husband and I both ordered salads with salmon — so the salmon was a 14$ upcharge and was half the size I’ve ever seen served anywhere in my life- totally could taste it was frozen (wasn’t expecting fresh but there are definitely higher qualities of salmon they could have chosen considering they’re giving you 2 bites) — our salads were over 30$ each (mine was 33$ I believe) literally nothing magical at all. Spring mix straight out of a bag or box, 2 bites of salmon 33$. I didn’t expect to come eat for a bargain but I also didn’t expect to leave there and go pay to have a whole second lunch somewhere else either. - husbands was the same. Our 2 portions should have been the size of 1.

  The food was brought out quickly which was great but our server took too long to come check on us at the beginning to take our order. Sadly we weren’t checked on even once after our original server took our order. Another server came to drop off our food. We asked him for ketchup and he said “right away”. It never came. Half way through our meal we asked another guy for some ketchup and a refill. Never came. We asked a different and third server for KETCHUP and this was finally the time we got ketchup. By this time my partner was already done eating because we aren’t going to wait for our food to get cold. So sad. I had high expectations for this place but the service SUCKED

  I don’t leave a lot of reviews. But this was exceptionally bad service. Anthony C. Was our server. I assume it was because we had a group of 6 and “large group” gratuity was added that he did not care. We saw him for drink orders, then food orders. After that, nobody refilled any drinks. Other servers brought out the food and we didn’t have any plates or utensils. We stared at our food for a while before a manager came over and gave us some plates and utensils. While eating dinner we asked Anthony about desserts and said that we wanted to get some and since they were selling a lot we wanted to put the order in now. He assured us that they had plenty of everything. When we finished dinner we were ignored by staff for at least 15 minutes and when he came back we requested the desserts. He then tells us that they were out of chocolate cake and the cheesecake(2 of 3). After that we watched the dessert chef serve up several more pieces of cheesecake and chocolate cake. The server even came by our table later holding a pice of chocolate cake in his hand for another table. We had put a reservation deposit down and they tried to charge us the entire bill without taking off the reservation deposit. We were reasonable, we were polite, so I have no idea why we were treated like this. The only thing I can think of is the fact that they knew gratuity was automatic so they didn’t have to care. That said, the food was very good. But the service would cause me to never come back.

  Outstanding food, beautiful views, and exceptional service! River Roast truly has it all — a beautiful atmosphere, lovely decor, spectacular views of the river, and absolutely delicious food. But what really made our experience special was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful. Jimmy, our server, made our dinner extra enjoyable with his wonderful sense of humor and warm personality. He even went out of his way to accommodate my son’s dietary needs by substituting the fries for mushrooms. The mushrooms were delicious and the portion was very generous. Nestor, the busser, was so polite and helpful, always with a smile. And Ernesto, the manager, stopped by our table to say hello and spend a few moments with us. This kind of genuine personal attention is hard to find these days, and it truly makes a difference. It creates the kind of connection that builds loyalty to a restaurant. And the food deserves a special mention! Everything we ordered was spectacular. The burrata with strawberries and balsamic had a perfectly balanced combination of flavors and came with freshly baked bread. The salmon was juicy and cooked to perfection, and both the RR Burger and Chicken Sandwich were delicious. We left feeling not only well-fed, but genuinely welcomed and appreciated. Every time we are in Chicago, we will be back at River Roast. The food and river views are fantastic, but it’s the people who made us feel special and turned a great dinner into a truly memorable experience. ❤️
