We had a great experience at River Roast this past weekend. My family of 4 found this restaurant as we walked the riverwalk. We were there for an early dinner and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, service was fast and the staff was friendly. They have inside and outside dinning options. We decided to sit on the patio and it was great. Highly reccomended going if you want a nicer meal while on vacation. We had made a reservation but decided to go before to see if they could accommodate us and they did.

This is my first time dining here and Elian was my server. The overall experience was OK, but there were some challenges in the speed of service. He was very Knowledgeable about the menu and generally friendly. I tried the mussels, house roasted chicken, signature mac & cheese(AMAZING), and more all based on his recommendations. However, my experience was impacted because it was not seamless. The restaurant Is right on the river and provided beautiful views at night , And all the food is very flavorful! I mean, I was very impressed. I didn’t need to ask for any additional condiment, salt and pepper, anything! And I think they’re pretty confident in their flavors because when I asked just for fun, what were my options, there were no abundance of housemaid sauces mentioned. Not even ranch lol. I will be back for sure, and hopefully with an even better experience to report on.

had a reservation and still had to wait. got seated inside when our reservation requested outside. people who were walkins were seated outside after us. we sat down and waited about 20 minutes for a server. when he finally came we ordered drinks and food for the 3 of us. another 35 minutes went by. all the tables who were seated after us got food and drinks and we got nothing. we told our server we were leaving and spoke to a manager (stephan) who did not give two craps. horrible experience and paid $18 for valet. do not come here

As part of my job, I arrange lunches multiple times a week in the summer at restaurants all over the Loop. We recently hosted lunch for 6 people at River Roast. A 21% automatic large party gratuity was automatically added to the check, which is excessive, it's at least disclosed and somewhat common practice.
What is completely unacceptable is that my corporate card—which was not the card used to pay for the meal, so I'm still baffled as to how River Roast obtained it—was separately charged a $61.20 fee labeled "OpenTable Deposit." This charge was never disclosed during the reservation process, never mentioned by anyone at the restaurant, and was not accompanied by any receipt or notification. I only became aware of it after reviewing my charges. I tried calling the restaurant, and they said they'd send to me via email but never did. To get an explanation, I had to physically walk to the restaurant and request a receipt.
So for a lunch that cost $165.50, River Roast tacked on an additional $95.96 in fees and gratuity. That's like 58% on top of the actual bill....
That's not even to MENTION that the party size was actually 5 people, as we made a reservation for 6 but the 6th attendee was not able to go last-minute.
Every aspect of this is totally unacceptable in my opinion, and I will never make another reservation here for my job or otherwise.
I personally didn't taste the food, but if the restaurant's decor is any indication, it's unimaginative at best. The hostess was very friendly & professional, so they got one thing right.

I had high expectations for brunch at River Roast, but the experience was deeply disappointing. I ordered the 'Chef’s Breakfast,' and the sausage served was visibly undercooked, with a pink color and a texture that clearly indicated it wasn't safe to eat (see attached photos).
When I brought this to the server's attention, the response was dismissive. She insisted that 'this is the texture of the sausage' and refused to replace the dish or cook it further, despite my safety concerns. Because of this, I had to set the sausage aside and could not finish my meal. To make matters worse, I was still charged the full price for the plate. It is unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber to ignore valid concerns about food safety and provide such poor service. I will not be returning.
No volveré
