  It’s truly an experience and a must go when visiting Chicago! The food is very good and overall is probably a 4 star but the atmosphere and nostalgia give it 5 stars! Highly recommend getting the Chicago dog with onion rings and the cake shake! The cake shake is a 10/10 and the best thing at Portillos. Highly recommend when visiting Chicago!

  Noisy. The best section (upstairs) was closed. Greek salad was pitiful except that the grilled chicken on it was good. Signage didn’t show that my salad should be picked up across the room at a different counter from the hamburger! Staff was not pleasant at all. My “dine in” salad was in a plastic container and large bag and with plastic serving ware as if it was take-out. Prices were okay but I won’t be going back there.

  A legendary spot for authentic Chicago street food! You cannot visit Chicago without eating here. The vibe inside is incredibly energetic and uniquely nostalgic. Their famous Chicago-style hot dog is a masterpiece that literally melts in your mouth. I also highly recommend ordering the Italian beef sandwich with the hot peppers option—it comes with a mix of pickled vegetables that perfectly enhances the flavor of the meat. To make it complete, pair it with a cold beer served in their iconic, traditional icy-cold mugs. The service was surprisingly fast despite the place being super busy. A fantastic experience overall!

  I stopped by for the classic Chicago hot dog and the Italian beef, and both were surprisingly spot‑on—tender beef, fresh toppings, and a bun that held everything together without going soggy. The staff were upbeat and quick, even during peak hour, and the décor gave the place a nostalgic, almost retro vibe that made the wait feel short. Great value for a tourist spot and definitely worth another visit.

  It is a nice place, love the decorations. I was a group of 4. There was no one at the door to greet anyone so as a first time visitor we had to figure it out by looking around and reading the signs. This was difficult for our foreign group member who is still learning American nuances due to learning English in the UK which is quite common for our overseas friends. Everything is expensive right now and I still expected better quality for the price of the food. We all agreed it was decent, as out of towners, I think we just expected more.
