Unfortunately, the app has been extremely frustrating to use. When I try to open it in the store to access sale prices or digital coupons, it drains my phone’s battery very quickly and frequently crashes. This makes it difficult (sometimes impossible) to use when I actually need it while shopping. More importantly, the current system assumes that customers have a smartphone, can afford one, and are comfortable using it. That isn’t always the case. For example, my mother-in-law does not own a smartphone, which effectively prevents her from accessing many sale prices and promotions. Requiring an app for basic discounts can unintentionally exclude customers who simply want to shop and pay the advertised price. I get that customer data is valuable for retailers. However, if the app is going to be required for deals, it really needs to be reliable and accessible. Otherwise, it would be greatly appreciated if Jewel-Osco offered alternatives again, like allowing customers to use their phone number at checkout to receive sale prices and promotions. We enjoy shopping at Jewel-Osco and would like the experience to be easier and more inclusive for all customers.
