  Food was excellent, service can use a little bit of work. I asked for extra limes they seemed to intentionally ignore the first request and then upon reminder seemed a bit annoyed. It’s just limes guys overall the food was great would revisit but if I revisit again and service is the same would not go back even though the food was excellent.

  I ended up at Hoanh Long because my cousin’s barber’s landlord told me this was the spot, and normally I don’t take restaurant advice through that many layers of civilian infrastructure, but the man spoke with conviction. So I slid in there figuring I’d grab a quick bite and keep it moving. First came the gỏi ngó sen tôm thịt. Now hold on. Why this salad got shrimp, pork, lotus root, herbs, crunch, tang, sweetness, and confidence? This ain’t no side salad. This salad got a LinkedIn profile. This salad got references. I took one bite and immediately understood why that landlord was so emotional about the place. Then they brought out the cơm tấm sườn bò non ốp-la. Steamed rice. Beef short ribs. Two eggs. Man, stop. Them short ribs came out tender, savory, and smelling like somebody in that kitchen had a personal issue with mediocrity. The eggs were laid over the top looking all luxurious for no reason, yolks ready to run down into the rice and turn the whole plate into a situation. I was supposed to eat, pay, and leave. Instead I’m sitting there 40 minutes later staring into space, reevaluating decisions I made in 2017. At one point the server asked if everything was okay. Ma’am, absolutely not. This meal has altered the trajectory of my day. I came to Hoanh Long off some questionable third-hand information and left ready to put that landlord in my will. 5 stars. Whoever’s auntie is in that kitchen, tell her I said thank you and also I’m sorry for whatever I did before I got here.

  I'll start by saying I'm a an older white dude who knows pho deeply. This place is hands down the best in Chicagoland area. Never have I been let down here. Even their iced coffee is outstanding.

  Have been going here for many years with my family and it has never disappointed. Food is amazing and service is even better!

  Came in after a long day of walking around in the heat, and had amazing food. We were so thirsty and ended up drinking 2 pitchers of water, but our cups never ran empty! Food was awesome, had the combination fried rice and my partner had some beef thing and both were just very delicious. It was like a 3 min walk from the hotel-Roadway Inn. Service was amazing, food was amazing, the atmosphere was a little lacking but definitely nothing to complain about. Great stop on our way through on vacation!
