Binny”s has the most helpful, friendly staff. I was in the Bolingbrook location today and they were so willing to assist me in finding the perfect bottle of wine. Thank you to all that helped, the cashier was also extremely friendly and polite.

I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED TREATMENT LIKE THIS AT BINNY’S. My husband and I left this location feeling racially profiled, humiliated, and completely disrespected. On Friday, August 7, 2026, around 11:20 AM, my husband and I visited the Binny’s in Bolingbrook on Boughton Road. I did not get the cashier’s name, but for management to identify the correct employee, she was a very, very short woman with black hair working the register at that time. My husband was simply helping me carry a case of Summer Shandy while I carried another alcoholic item. I was making the purchase, paying for everything, and I had my identification. At the register, the cashier told us that because my husband physically carried the case to the counter, he was also required to present identification. She specifically represented this requirement to us as “the law.” We explained that he was simply helping his wife carry a heavy case. Her response was essentially, “That’s what baskets are for.” Instead of arguing or causing a scene, I personally walked back into the store, picked up another case myself, carried it back, and placed it on the counter. You would think that would have ended the situation. It didn’t. My husband then asked about getting a regular, NONALCOHOLIC Red Bull. We were told that either I had to personally retrieve it or he would need to show identification for that as well. At that point, this felt like far more than a routine alcohol compliance check. The excessive scrutiny, argumentative manner, unnecessary comments, and then extending the issue to a nonalcoholic Red Bull made the entire experience feel targeted and humiliating. My husband and I are an African American married couple, and we genuinely left feeling racially profiled and singled out. We were not causing a disturbance or attempting to purchase alcohol for a minor. We were simply a husband and wife shopping together, with one spouse helping the other carry merchandise. What bothered me even more was the cashier presenting this as “the law.” After leaving, I reviewed the applicable Illinois liquor law and Binny’s publicly available policies. I could not locate anything stating that an adult is legally required to present identification solely because they helped another adult carry alcohol to the register. So I want Binny’s management to answer a simple question: What exact Illinois law was this employee referring to? If this is actually an internal Binny’s policy rather than Illinois law, what is that policy, and is it enforced consistently with EVERY customer who helps another person carry alcohol? I also want to understand why this supposed identification requirement extended to a NONALCOHOLIC RED BULL. We have patronized Binny’s many times and spent plenty of our hard earned money with this company. Never have we experienced anything remotely like this. I have formally escalated this matter to Binny’s corporate office and am also reaching out directly to Binny’s CEO, Michael Binstein, because I believe company leadership should be aware when longtime customers leave one of their stores feeling they were treated differently because of their race. I am requesting that Binny’s identify the cashier, review and preserve any available surveillance footage from approximately 11:20 AM, review our transaction, and determine whether these same requirements and level of scrutiny were being applied consistently to other customers. I am not looking for a generic apology. I want to know what policy was actually being enforced, why we were treated this way, and whether that policy was being applied equally to everyone. Every customer, Black, white, or otherwise, deserves to spend their money and be treated with dignity and respect. My husband and I did not receive that treatment. This experience was unacceptable. I sincerely hope Michael Binstein and Binny’s corporate leadership take this seriously, investigate what occurred, and contact me directly.

I rarely leave reviews unless I receive exceptional service or the person that helped me went above and beyond. I was looking for Pollyanna Smrt Smrt which I guess is hard to find and I had looked everywhere. No one had it. No other Binny’s had it in stock, no other liquor stores. Literally out everywhere. Discouraged but it was for a gift so I was set on finding it. This location was my last try but glad I called.. I spoke to Thomas and had him on the phone for what seemed like a good 20 minutes. Told him what I was looking for and that it would be about an hour drive so I just wanted to make sure they had it before driving that way. He confirmed they had it (YES!!! 🙌) and suggested some similar flavors the person might like. The whole time he was very helpful and patient and wasn’t trying to rush me off the phone, which was nice because customer service over the phone everywhere for the most part is usually unsatisfactory in my opinion. Super happy, I told him I was on my way. Tried looking for it myself when I got there but it looked like they were out which was SUCH a bummer! I was actually kind of annoyed because that means I just wasted an hour driving there and now would have to drive an hour back. Empty handed. But then Martin came to the rescue. Told him my mini dilemma and he said, “Oh, you’re the one Thomas talked to. Your stuff’s up in front.” Thomas, my hero, had pulled the very last pack along with the other flavor he suggested and put it in the cooler so they were nice and cold, waiting for me when I got there. Wahooo!! Happy day! The person I bought it for was over the moon I was able to find his favorite beer and liked the other flavor as well. Thomas and Martin for the win! Will definitely be a returning customer. Check this place out if you haven’t. Great selection and everyone is super nice and helpful
