This review is about the wheelchair accessibility of the location, not the food. The tacos were excellent.
The challenge was simply getting into the restaurant. Along this stretch of State Street, there is no accessible parking. We drove the length of several blocks, turned around, and checked both sides of the street, but couldn't find a single accessible parking space. We eventually parked in a standard spot, but because we use a wheelchair-accessible van, unloading into traffic along the State Street corridor felt unsafe. We had to unload right into the busy street.
After crossing the street, we discovered the nearest curb cut was at the end of the block, adding another obstacle. When we finally reached the restaurant, we found the entrance itself was not wheelchair accessible. There is a large step. There was no ramp available, so someone using a wheelchair could not independently enter the restaurant unfortunately. If you have a power wheelchair this can not be done.
But when you are inside, the location was spacious for a wheelchair. We cannot review the restrooms.
The tacos were delicious, and we truly enjoyed them. I hope the restaurant will consider keeping a small portable ramp available or offering to take orders outside when someone cannot access the entrance. I also hope the City of Belvidere addresses the lack of accessible parking along this corridor. For a city of this size, the absence of accessible parking is very surprising.
We'd love to come back, but until accessibility improves, it isnt a practical place for a family like ours to visit. The food was good.
