Amazing! The restaurant was clean, well lit and had a contemporary decor. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable about the dishes and very fast at refills and delivery of food. Oh and the food! It was so delicious, decently portioned and priced very well. I would recommend the carne asada. The steak was very tender. Also the pork belly appetizer.

Decor cute... food came out fast. That's the only positives... daughters taco was soggy, and she couldn't even pick it up. I had to ask for another taco shell.. she scooped it up into the new one and it still crumbled. Found hair in the queso salsa...
Our waitress took forever showing back up, After dropping off the food. So long, that we had to ask another server for our tab. She then showed up with more water, which we had been empty for 20 mins.. food was not good, slow service and pricey for mexican plates. Will not return.

My husband and I went to Coyol for date night and were genuinely excited to try it. The idea of a more modern, upscale take on Tex-Mex/Mexican food sounded great, and the atmosphere initially made a really good impression.
Walking in, you never would’ve guessed the space used to be a Chili’s. The warm lighting, wood accents, and flooring make the restaurant feel much more elevated and high-end. Unfortunately, one of the first things we noticed was the overwhelming smell of bleach. I appreciate a clean restaurant, but the smell was so strong that it became uncomfortable and honestly made us not want to stay very long.
The music also didn’t match the environment at all. It was very upbeat and energetic, while the restaurant itself had a much more relaxed, upscale atmosphere. It honestly made the experience less enjoyable. Something more along the lines of romantic Mexican music or the kind of music you might hear at a Mexican wedding would have complemented the space so much better.
Our waiter was pleasant and, for the most part, attentive, and the menu had a decent number of options. Unfortunately, the food itself was where the experience really fell apart.
I ordered the quesadilla, and it was extremely dry while somehow also being greasy and oily. The meat was burnt, and parts of the tortilla were burnt as well. The guacamole that came with it looked and tasted like plain avocado that had been blended up with little to no seasoning or other ingredients added.
My husband asked for extra salsa, which we later discovered was an additional $4. He also asked for pico de gallo, which was another $2 for a genuinely laughable amount.
What bothered us even more was the way the bill was handled. When it came time to pay, the waiter brought the payment terminal over before ever showing us an itemized bill. We had to specifically ask for a receipt, and that was when we realized we had been charged extra for the salsa and pico. On top of that, there was also an additional “merchant fee.”
Extra charges aren’t necessarily a problem when they’re clearly communicated, but having several small add-on charges and then a merchant fee on top of the menu prices just leaves a bad impression. Coyol would be much better off building those costs into its menu pricing rather than making customers feel nickel-and-dimed at the end of the meal.
Overall, the restaurant looks beautiful and has a lot of potential, but the food and pricing experience did not live up to the atmosphere. For what we paid, we left disappointed and unimpressed. If you’re craving Mexican food, I’d save the time and money and go to Cafe Rio in the same parking lot instead.

Coyol Cocina & Tequila — 5 stars
We’ve been here six times since they opened and Coyol is already our favorite restaurant in Coeur d’Alene.
I don’t like onions. In Spanish that’s sin cebolla. I do like extra peppers. A lot of places around here just shrug and say it’s already in the premix. That’s never a good sign. These guys actually listen and still deliver.
The food is the real deal — not the microwave Mexican you get so often up here. Fresh guacamole made at the station, good salsa, that little white sauce I didn’t even know what it was the first time (it’s delicious), excellent fajitas, and tortillas that are actually good. Margaritas are out of this world.
Price is better than the other really good Mexican spots in the area. You get great food, great value, and great salsa music. The vibe is unlike anything else in town — and this is an old Chili’s they completely transformed. Cat’s meow. Bee’s knees. However you want to say it.
Service makes you feel like family no matter who waits on you. Ownership is clearly on top of it. They kill it every time.
If you want authentic Mexican in North Idaho, look no further

The food was good, but unfortunately the way one situation was handled really affected our experience.
We were there with my autistic nephew, who has very specific safe foods due to his autism. We brought a pizza for him so that he would have something he could eat. There were five adults in our party, all ordering food from the restaurant, and we also spent around $70 on alcoholic drinks.
My sister-in-law has been to Coyol before and has brought food for him without it being an issue. This time, however, we were approached and told that outside food was not allowed. They did allow him to eat his pizza this time, but we were told that in the future we would not be allowed to bring food in for him.
What bothered us most was the way it was communicated. The tone felt more like we were being scolded than someone simply explaining a restaurant policy. It was uncomfortable and honestly surprising, especially considering this was food specifically brought for an autistic child with limited safe foods, not outside food being brought in because we simply didn’t want to purchase food from the restaurant.
We completely understand having a general no-outside-food policy. At the same time, I would hope there could be some compassion and reasonable flexibility when it comes to children with disabilities and sensory-related food restrictions.
The food was good, but knowing that we may not be able to bring one of my nephew’s safe foods in the future makes it difficult to consider Coyol a place where our entire family can comfortably return.
