  The food was wonderful and the customer service was exceptionally good. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and definitely went there a second time while I was in town.

  This place was so excellent that I came back two nights in a row. Don’t expect food immediately on the table because everything is made from scratch using a multi-generational recipe. The wait is absolutely worth it though. I had the tikka masala and butter chicken, both of which were so yummy. I left both times with a full tummy and a smile. I also had the chai - super worth it. Give them a chance and let the owners show you their pride in their cooking and care for their customers.

  Five stars, no question. Taj Mahal of Boise is simply the best Pakistani food in town, and last night proved it all over again. We brought out-of-town friends who had never been, and the night turned into exactly the kind of feast that makes people fall in love with a restaurant. We went all out and ordered a spread: the goat karahi, the bone-in chicken biryani, the tandoori platter, the Lahori fish fry, the Charga, garlic naan that disappeared faster than we could order it, and a dal that was quietly one of the best things on the table. The flavors are layered and complex in a way that is unmistakably homestyle. You can taste the care in every dish. The service matched the food. The staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely happy to walk you through the menu. Our out-of-town guests left raving and already planning a return trip. If you have visitors coming to Boise and want to show them what this city has to offer, bring them here. Taj Mahal never misses.

  I feel really bad for leaving such a poor review for a local spot, but I honestly feel like I have a responsibility to share my experience with others. As a disclaimer, we were warned when we arrived that service would be slow, but we figured we could just have a drink and chat as we waited… We came in around 6:40 as a 3 top and (spoiler alert), we didn’t leave until 9:00 after walking to the front of the restaurant and flagging down our server and asking for our check since we were confident we would not be offered a check any time soon. When we arrived, it took around 10 minutes for us to receive some water, which everyone in our party thought tasted off. After that, another 10 or 15 minutes went by before our drink order was taken, and another 30 or 40 minutes went by before our food order was taken. It took almost an hour after our drink order was placed for a beer and tea to be brought to us. One order of tea for the table was forgotten and it took almost another 30 minutes for it to be brought to us, to which, at least the server did remark that it was very slow. Mind you that no water refills were given the entire duration of our visit, and no napkins or towels were provided either. One member of our party even resorted to taking an half empty glass bottle of water from another table which had left a long time ago as he was so thirsty. After waiting nearly 2 hours for overpriced food, we were fairly disappointed. Not one person finished their meal even though we were all very hungry from waiting. The food was seasoned pretty well and cooked decently, but we were given no sauces or chutney to go with our spicy and dry meals, which we thought chutney would be reasonable to expect at around $30 for an entrée. Asking for sauces felt hopeless given the pace of service; we didn’t feel like waiting another hour to ado for sauce or something to drink, and we didn’t even have any water left. We just decided to get our check and leave. Overall, this was probably the most disappointing restaurant experience I have had in my adult life.
