    This is one of I was best kept secrets when I pulled up. I’m thinking oh my God this place is a hole in the wall. It’s my birthday. I made a reservation. Something told me to stay. Oh, and I’m so glad I did. This place did not disappoint. The food was amazing. I had the ribs with the Brisket and I had the catfish cake for an appetizer. All were amazing and the price was not bad the service was excellent.

    Went here for lunch with a coworker last week. Im bummed that I live in Omaha and can only come here sparingly when work takes me to Des Moines. Ordered the brisket bowl...Brisket was amazing; melt in your mouth unctuous. The romesco drizzle; tah dah. The pickles that were cukes less than 12 hours earlier; chef's kiss. Only reason for a 4 out of 5 on food was the rice was under and on a plate where everything else was amazing, it stood out. Will be back again, hopefully soon.

    Wow! We used to love Flying Mango but the food quality had gone downhill in the past few years. Not anymore, it is once again fantastic. We both ordered the cajun chicken sandwich, collard greens, red beans and rice along with the baked apple dish twice now in the past 2 weeks and I’m so glad to say it is once again our favorite neighborhood spot. The chicken was tender, the bread soft and fresh, collard greens tender and flavorful and everything else spot on.

    New owners in April seem to be figuring it out. Wait staff was excellent. The smoked food and sausage were great. Sides needed a bit more seasoning or maybe just salt!

    The Flying Mango felt like one of those places where the menu keeps pulling your attention in different directions because everything sounds good. I started with smoked wings that had a nice balance of smoke and seasoning without being overwhelming. They disappeared much faster than expected. For the main meal I ordered brisket alongside mac and cheese and baked beans. The brisket was tender and the mac and cheese was rich without feeling too heavy. The baked beans added just enough sweetness to bring everything together. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It felt like a neighborhood spot that people are proud to introduce to visitors.
