  This iconic Eastside eatery has been serving their devoted customers for 70+ years! I am speaking of the Starlight Room, just off of First Ave behind another historic landmark, the Dairy Queen. If you have driven along this stretch of First Ave, you have no doubt seen their sign advertising this spot as the “Home of the Superburger”! We chose a quiet Monday afternoon for our visit, with a few couples at tables and a handful of regulars at the bar in attendance. The interior is comfortable in a laid-back Midwestern way, not designed by a decorator, but decorated by the accumulation of items throughout its long history. One nifty item is an antique fortune telling machine, where one can drop a coin and hear of their future from the animatronic Zoltar. How cool is that!? Despite being a 70 year old tavern the place is clean as a whistle, showing a great deal of care in the upkeep of the establishment by the owners and crew. Getting seated, with menus in hand, was a matter of moments. Neither one of us chose the aforementioned Superburger as a half pound burger sounded like too much! Louise opted for an all-American classic, the cheeseburger (¼ lb) and fries. I, as is my wont, chose something a bit spicier, opting for the ¼ lb jalapeño burger and fries. Both burgers were tasty, and stood out in this modern era of gastro pub burger creations for their simplicity and timelessness. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the creative chef's burgers, with pickled red onions, artisanal cheese, chipotle garlic aioli, and the ubiquitous brioche bun, but there is something to be said for a good ‘ol burger. We both found the burgers delish (mine with pepper jack), and just the right size for lunch. The fries were fantastic! Your standard crinkle-cuts, but fried to perfection, and I mean absolutely perfectly crispy and flavorful! Louise thought they might be fried in an alternate oil, such as peanut, because of their crispness and a total lack of greasiness. We simultaneously commented, on the way out, that a serving of those fries (the portion was huge) would make a fine lunch in and of itself. Our server, Tasia, was quick and friendly. She was hustling around the place as the only server at this time of day, but didn't seem rushed, and delivered that neighborly service that the Midwest is justifiably known for. We had a great lunch at this venerable neighborhood eatery, and it really reinforced my idea that these gathering places in our local community are truly the beating heart of a healthy society.   Food was ok. Ordered through DoorDash didn’t get funnel fries and order had missing ingredients.

  This is the freshest and most reasonably price hamburger I have ever had in the United States. I heard that they have a history of over 50 years and the design is super American style. Perfect spot to hang out with the family and friends. Love it!

  We have always & always will eat & enjoy family gatherings with close friends at TSR!! We love Sam & his family, the atmosphere, the food can’t be beat! It’s perfect for a large family like ours to book the back room (or for work or business events) or a regular table or booth seat which all have great access to the large screen tvs so you can catch any big game or sporting even you can’t miss! We love the option to sit indoors or out, weather permitting!!The bathrooms are clean & smell well which is a MUST for me & my family!! The food is phenomenal (best ranch in town), great apps, salads, wraps, homemade soups, entrees but our 3 favs are the tenderloin, super burger with cheese, & almost any app! Perfect for carry out as well- can’t beat the Starlite Room ✨
