I was genuinely excited to try Luis Mexican Taco Shop. I’ve passed it several times, and my mom and I finally had the opportunity to stop in together. Unfortunately, the experience was so uncomfortable and unnecessarily rude that I won’t be returning.
Since neither of us had been there before and the menu is fairly large, my mom asked a few questions about whether they offered certain items. The employee at the counter seemed to have difficulty explaining the menu or communicating clearly, which made the ordering process more confusing than it needed to be. More importantly, she was not friendly and acted as though our questions were an inconvenience, even though the restaurant was completely empty.
After ordering our food to go, we sat at a nearby table to wait. The employee brought our chips over to the table, so we opened them and began eating while we waited. I was also dealing with an important issue on my phone and explaining it to my mom, so we were focused on our conversation.
At one point, I heard the employee yell something from the counter, but I assumed she was speaking to someone in the kitchen. She yelled again, and then a third time, when I finally realized she was loudly shouting “READY” at us from across the restaurant. We were sitting maybe ten steps away. Since she had already walked our chips over to us, I couldn’t understand why she felt the need to repeatedly scream across an empty restaurant rather than simply letting us know our order was ready.
As I walked to the counter, another employee who had joined her appeared amused by the situation, which made the interaction feel even more disrespectful. I still chose to be kind and said, “I’m so sorry, we were focused on our conversation. Thank you so much, we really appreciate it.”
In response, both employees gave me a dismissive “yeah.” No “you’re welcome,” no “no problem,” no “thank you,” and no acknowledgment whatsoever. We had been polite throughout the entire interaction, even apologizing for asking questions, and were treated as though our presence was a burden.
I understand that everyone has an off day, but basic kindness and customer service should be the bare minimum, especially when someone is choosing to spend their money at your business. We did nothing wrong. We were polite, patient, and simply asked questions because we were unfamiliar with the menu.
Unfortunately, the dismissive and entitled attitude completely overshadowed the food and left such a negative impression that I will not return. I’ll also be sharing my experience with others. In a time when every dollar matters, customers deserve to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.
