Terrazas, You ruined my Cinco de Mayo!!
Today is Taco Tuesday and Cinco de Mayo, which only happens once every seven years. I walked to Tarazas because I live in the community right next door, less than a 3-minute walk away.
The restaurant was very busy today. When I arrived, there were no seats available at the bar, so I was seated at a long table next to the bar. The table could probably seat about 10 people. Two people were already seated there: one woman and one man, both dining alone.
I ordered what I usually get every time I visit: the blackened salmon tacos and a strawberry margarita. About two minutes later, the man sitting at the table moved from the table to the bar. I do not know why. A few minutes after that, I noticed a strange smell coming from the woman sitting nearby, so I moved to a seat at the bar.
The male server who originally took my order brought my drink over to the bar. While I was drinking, I commented that the restaurant was very busy today, much busier than usual.
A little later, the female bartender came over and asked if I wanted to order. I told her that I had already ordered at the table. She then said to me, “YOU CANNOT HAVE A SEAT HERE. YOU MUST RETURN BACK TO THE TABLE.” Yes, those were her exact words. It was very rude.
Although I returned to the table, I felt very uncomfortable and ended up leaving early without finishing my dinner.
When I received the bill, I noticed that the restaurant had charged me a gratuity. The explanation I was given was that because today was Cinco de Mayo, customers had to pay extra. So apparently, according to this restaurant’s logic, customers are required to pay more simply because it is Cinco de Mayo.
I will not be coming back to this restaurant. And I used to go to this restaurant 3 times a week in the past two months!
