  They had me pull to the second window and wait for 7 minutes just to serve me this. I ordered a classic burger with extra pickles and onions. I couldn’t finish it. It was just too nasty.

  We were passing through this afternoon (3/29/26) on a family road trip and stopped here simply because it was one of the only places along our route that wasn’t overwhelmed. Our visit was brief but unfortunately quite memorable for the wrong reasons. I haven’t been to a Checkers in years and went in with modest expectations but I did not expect the level of discourtesy we encountered. Among other items, I ordered two burgers without mustard or ketchup. The cashier repeated the order and again asked about ketchup to which I clarified “no.” As I watched the cook begin preparing the food with mustard I politely reiterated the request. The cashier responded sharply saying, “THIS IS WHY I ASKED YOU!” I calmly explained that I had mentioned it initially and that it was simply a misunderstanding, even offering an apology. In return, I was met with visible frustration from the cook who aggressively discarded the prepared items by angrily flinging them into the trash before turning around and staring at me. The interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and uncomfortable. What was most disappointing was not the mistake but the tone, the lack of basic courtesy and the way the situation was handled. As an Asian American, I couldn’t help but feel dismissed in a way that was both disheartening and inappropriate and more so considering how graciously I treated them. I can and did, after all, speak 100% fluent English. Customer service at its core is about kindness and respect. Sadly, that was missing here. A little grace goes a long way.
