We’ve always loved Trattoria Pasquale, which made last night’s visit a bit of a mixed experience. We stopped in after seeing their announcement about closing and rebranding at the end of the month, hoping to enjoy one more great meal before their next chapter begins. Pros The food remains the star. Their pasta dishes have always been excellent, and this visit was no exception. I usually order the chicken parm, but this time I tried the Farfalle Luigi with chicken (listed online as the Farfalle Nikola), while my wife ordered the Fettuccine Gamberi. Both dishes arrived piping hot, full of flavor, and with just the right kick from the red pepper. We’d happily order both again. House salad was also delicious. Cons Bread policy — Charging for bread at an Italian restaurant feels out of place and is an immediate turnoff. It’s a small gesture that goes a long way, and its absence is noticeable. Drinks — Unfortunately, neither of us enjoyed our cocktails. At $14–15 each, they didn’t feel worth the price, and the menu leans heavily toward martini-style drinks with few alternatives. In hindsight, a beer or glass of wine would have been a better choice. Dessert experience — This was the most disappointing part of the night. I asked about the chef’s special dessert, and when the server mentioned it might be out, I asked her to check and said I’d take the limoncello cake if not. What arrived was essentially a grocery-store hamburger bun filled with cannoli cream. The cream itself was good, but the presentation and concept were shockingly off-brand for Pasquale’s/Luigi. I mentioned it was “a bit interesting,” but it would have been appreciated if the server had offered to remove it from the bill or brought the limoncello cake instead, knowing that’s what I originally wanted. For just a couple dollars more, I could have ordered actual cannoli and had a much better experience. Overall Despite the missteps, our past experiences here have been wonderful, and we’re hopeful about the transition to “Luigi’s Kitchen.” We’ll give them another try after the changeover, but if the next visit doesn’t return to the standard we’ve come to know, we may have to rethink keeping them in our regular Italian rotation.

Food was great. Service was handled, but somewhat inattentive. Drink refills were slow if at all. And the ala carte food really should be reconsidered. Bread should come with your visit and not charged $3.00 per bowl. Salad or soup should come with your meal also. But this place stays busy, probably due to the food quality so charging for items that come with your meal at many restaurants probably won't change. It reminds me of South Tampa rent prices and home purchases. If people keep paying it, nothing will change. I just have much respect for restaurants that do choose to give you more for the money. I remember when Pasquale's started in a small hole in the wall place on Manhattan Ave. Very happy for their success.

We did take out. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The bread is heavenly. My chefs salad with grilled chicken was enough for 1 person meal. Excellent!
