Elevated atop the Aloft and Element Hotel in Midtown Tampa, Sal Y Mar (meaning “Salt & Sea”) features a chic, modern design inspired by the coastal elegance of Tulum in the Riviera Maya. With indoor/outdoor seating spread across 4,900 sq ft, the venue offers inviting communal lounges, covered terraces, and scenic drink rails, perfect for both lively gatherings and relaxed evenings.
The restaurant itself is really beautiful, with a lovely atmosphere and interior. I especially want to mention the staff — everyone was very friendly, attentive, and pleasant. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. The food was honestly very disappointing and did not match the quality of the restaurant or our expectations at all. It’s such a shame because the place makes a wonderful first impression, but the food completely ruined the experience.

Great spot for drinks with a view from the rooftop bar. Our bartender Elijah was friendly and knowledgeable and is a cocktail wizard! I got the Como la flor, recommended by Elijah, and it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I will def be back soon to try some of their other drinks! Garnish game is on point too 🫡

Absolutely exceptional experience at Sal y Mar! Elijah at the bar was the highlight of our visit—attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and made every drink perfectly. He has that rare ability to make you feel genuinely welcomed while still keeping up with a busy bar. The atmosphere was already beautiful, but Elijah’s service took the entire experience to another level. If you visit, sit at the bar and ask for Elijah—you won’t regret it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unacceptable Service and Discriminatory Treatment
As a new resident looking for a welcoming spot, my recent experience at this rooftop restaurant was deeply disturbing. What should have been a pleasant evening turned into an appalling display of poor service and outright bias.
From the moment we arrived, staff members greeted us with hostile glares. We sat at a table for exactly 22 minutes without a single employee acknowledging us. When we went to the bar to order drinks, we were met with complete silence instead of basic professionalism, “Hi, how can I help you?” We were never asked for assistance, the entire time.
Meanwhile, tables around us (who arrived well after we did) received prompt service.
When an employee finally approached us, it was only to demand that we leave. We were confused as to why. She mentioned that we were sitting in the restaurant section of the rooftop. So we explained to her that we have been waiting to order food and asked how the seating process worked. The employee openly chuckled in our faces and said, "It doesn't work like that. You have to leave," offering no explanation before escorting us out.
We conducted ourselves with complete decorum, yet we were publicly humiliated and thrown out without cause. Notably, my guest and I were the ONLY visible minorities in the venue. Given the stark difference in how other patrons were treated, the selective bias was impossible to ignore.
If you value basic respect, equality, and a fair environment, avoid this place. You are not welcome here.

Super disappointed. I visited Sal y Mar a few months ago for brunch and everything was fantastic - food, drinks, service, all 10/10. Today, I was hoping for the same and was severely underwhelmed.
I understand menus change but the brunch menu went from having a plethora of flavorful options to … basic brunch. Part of the lure of Sal y Mar is Latin flavors, not blueberry waffles and eggs with toast. My group asked the hostess and server if the large spritz mimosas were still around, they both weren’t entirely sure what we meant so we further explained, the hostess said ‘oh! we call those the giant mimosas now’ so we ordered two and our table was met with … just a mimosa in a large glass. With this extra large mimosa we were given a regular straw that touched not even halfway down the glass. THEN our waiter said he would grab us a glass to pour some into (we did not ask but appreciated this, I’m sure he noted the too-short straw) and he came back with literal plastic cups. PLASTIC CUPS???
Fine, so the drink changed (though it was not even on the menu, $25 for a mason jar of ice and juice with a splash of bubbly and flower on top is crazy work) and we thought maybe the super limited menu of food could redeem and we were wrong again but alas, we then ordered food, the Benedict and the shrimp and grits. Never have I ever had more runny grits in my entire life, I took about six bites of what I could and the rest I would have needed a spoon for. Flavor was fine but the dish was inedible with a fork, shrimp was fine and I had about two pieces of spinach in the dish. Benedict was fine.
On top of all of this there were flies constantly flying around the restaurant, sure there’s an outdoor component to the place but not once while we dined was a door to the exterior opened. I should have known this would be a less than stellar experience when we entered for brunch on a Saturday and only two other people were dining. This experience left such a sour taste in my mouth I can say I would come back. Literally went to chick fil a on the way home. Incredibly disappointed in the decline of this place.
