My experience at this Sonic was incredibly frustrating from start to finish.
We ordered three combo meals and an additional side. When we got to the drive-thru window, we asked if we could add one more drink. We were told that wasn’t possible and that we would have to drive all the way around and place a separate order, which seemed unnecessary.
We also had multiple families in the car, and one family wanted to contribute cash toward the order. I handed the cashier both cash and my debit card, expecting the cash to be applied first and the remaining balance charged to my card. Instead, she charged the entire amount to my card and handed both my card and the cash back. When I explained that we wanted to use the cash as part of the payment, she simply said she couldn’t do that.
After waiting about 20 minutes in the drive-thru, we finally received our food. As we were handing food to the kids in the back seat, we realized one of the combo meal sides was missing. We had only received one order of onion rings and one order of fries instead of the two onion rings and one fries that came with our order.
We waited another 5–10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. When an employee finally came over, he insisted we had received everything we ordered and asked if we had checked our bags. We told him we had checked them multiple times. We even handed him the food so he could verify it himself. At that point, because our food had been sitting while we waited, we requested fresh food along with the missing onion rings. He refused.
We then requested a refund. He told us to pull forward, but I refused because I wasn’t leaving the drive-thru without either the food we paid for or a refund. This entire situation was over a single missing side of onion rings.
Eventually, an old man came to the window and told me I was going to move so other customers could get through the drive-thru. I explained that I was a paying customer who had neither received the complete order nor been refunded. Instead of resolving the issue, he walked behind my vehicle while talking on his phone and took pictures of my car and license plate.
No one communicated with us after that. We sat there another 10–15 minutes until my husband checked our bank account and saw that the refund had finally been processed.
In the end, we wasted approximately 45 minutes, left without our food, and experienced some of the worst customer service we’ve encountered. Mistakes happen, but how a business handles those mistakes is what matters. This location failed at every opportunity to make things right.
We’ll be taking our business to Steak ’n Shake across the road from now on.
