I came to Bonefish Grill today, as I do pretty often, and unfortunately I was really disappointed with the service we received.
We arrived right at opening and were the first guests to walk in. Our server, Sarah, took at least 10 minutes to come greet our table. We ordered our drinks without the bread we had previously requested. I completely understand that opening time can be hectic and that the staff is still getting everything set up, but I come here often and have never experienced service this poor.
After about 30 minutes, we still had not received our food, so we asked Sarah about it. She repeatedly told us that the systems were down and that she didn’t know how long it would take. As someone who also works as a server, I completely understand that things happen and that some situations are out of a server’s control. However, I asked if she could please check with the kitchen and give us an estimate, because there was no communication about what was actually happening.
She came back and told us it would be another few minutes. At that point, we noticed a family who had arrived after us leaving with their food and checks already taken care of, while we were still waiting for our entrées. When our food finally arrived, I mentioned this to Sarah, and her response was simply that she didn’t know what happened. After that, she never came back to check on our table or see how our food was. She essentially disappeared.
I eventually asked to speak with a manager, and Hunter came to our table. He was extremely kind, understanding, and professional. He listened to everything we had to say, apologized, explained the situation without making excuses, and offered us dessert.
I also want to recognize Hailey, the host. She was apologizing to us throughout the experience even though none of the situation was her fault. She was extremely kind and helpful and was simply doing her job while trying to make our experience better. After I asked her to have our server bring our checks, we waited another 10 minutes. Without us even knowing, Hunter ultimately decided to comp our entire meal, which was incredibly kind and something we really appreciated.
Despite the experience today, I will continue coming back to this Bonefish Grill because of people like Hunter and Hailey.
As for Sarah, I genuinely hope she takes this experience as an opportunity to improve her communication and customer service. Things going wrong is understandable, especially when systems are down, but communication and checking in with your guests make a huge difference.
