I had high hopes for Red Phoenix, especially given its beautiful location on the marina, but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing.
The one bright spot was our bartender, Melissa, who was absolutely fabulous. She was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to have us there. Unfortunately, the food and management experience fell far short.
We were among the first guests to arrive for happy hour and ordered the wings and dumplings. The wings arrived fairly quickly, but they were completely raw in the center. We sent them back, and about 10 minutes later received another order. While they were somewhat more cooked, they were still not properly done and were excessively fatty. To make matters worse, our dumplings never arrived at all.
Then, despite the restaurant being comfortably air-conditioned, the manager opened the large windows directly in front of us. Within moments, the temperature went from pleasant to uncomfortably hot. We politely asked if the windows could be closed, but were told they needed to remain open so people could see that the restaurant had outdoor seating. This made little sense, particularly since no one was outside because of the heat.
After approximately 45 minutes, two disappointing rounds of wings, and still no dumplings, we decided it was time to leave and go somewhere else.
It really is a shame. The location on the marina is beautiful, and the restaurant has the potential to be a great destination. Unfortunately, the food quality, lack of attention to our order, and management decisions made for a very poor experience.
Melissa deserves special recognition because she was truly the shining light of an otherwise disappointing visit. Based on our experience, however, I would recommend looking elsewhere for happy hour or dinner.
