I visited this Pollo Tropical today and placed my order through the kiosk at 3:35 p.m. While I was waiting for my food, around 3:41–3:42 p.m., I noticed one of the employees repeatedly scratching her nose and face with her hands before continuing to handle food, plates, and utensils without washing her hands. As someone with a culinary arts background who has worked in restaurants, I know that gloves are not the issue—proper handwashing after touching your face is a basic food safety requirement. I politely mentioned what I had observed to another employee, expecting the concern to be taken seriously. Instead, she walked over to the employee and discussed what I had said in Spanish in a casual, almost gossipy way, apparently assuming I wouldn’t understand. I do speak Spanish, so I understood the conversation. It made me feel like my legitimate food safety concern was being dismissed instead of being handled professionally. What disappointed me most was that the employee never stopped to wash her hands and continued handling food. I also overheard employees saying that “McDonald’s doesn’t use gloves,” which completely missed the point. My concern was never about wearing gloves—it was about touching your nose and face and then continuing to handle food without washing your hands. Food safety should always come first. When a customer raises a reasonable concern, the proper response is to correct the issue immediately, not make the customer feel like they’re the problem. I hope management reviews this incident because good hygiene, professionalism, and respect for customers are essential in any restaurant.
