I visited the Pizza Hut on Collins Avenue in Miami because I was very hungry and all I wanted was some wings. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from start to finish.
When I asked the cashier, Maria, if there were any promotions available, she immediately came across with an attitude and seemed uninterested in helping. The only promotion she mentioned was a deal that included a medium pizza and 6 wings for $24.
Since I only wanted wings, I decided to order 12 wings for $18. I then asked if I could split the order into two different flavors (6 wings of one flavor and 6 wings of another). Instead of explaining the pricing and sauce policy upfront, Maria rang up the order with additional sauce charges. When she told me the total, I was surprised by how much it had increased. Only then did she explain that a 12-wing order comes with one sauce and that splitting flavors would cost extra.
I told her that if that was the case, it should have been explained before the order was processed. I asked if she could correct the order so I could pay less, but instead she went to the back, spoke with someone, and came back telling me that there was no manager available until Friday morning and that I would have to come back in two days to request a refund on my credit card.
That made absolutely no sense. Why should a customer have to leave, wait two days, and return to fix an issue that could have been addressed at the time of purchase? I was hungry and didn't want to leave without food, so I accepted the order, but I was very unhappy with how the situation was handled.
What made it even more frustrating was that I ended up paying over $31 and received less food than I would have gotten if I had simply ordered the advertised special for $24. Had Maria taken the time to properly explain the pricing and options, I would have chosen the promotion and received more food for less money. Instead, I felt like I paid more because of poor communication and a lack of customer service.
To make matters worse, the food wasn't ready when expected, Maria continued to have a poor attitude throughout the interaction, and when I received my order, there were no napkins, utensils, or any effort made to provide a positive customer experience. She even mentioned that tips are appreciated, but it's difficult to justify tipping when the service is unfriendly, unhelpful, and unprofessional.
The wings themselves were okay, but customer service is a big part of the experience. Between the poor communication, lack of professionalism, refusal to resolve the issue, and overall attitude, this was one of the worst experiences I've had at a Pizza Hut. I hope management addresses these issues and provides better training on customer service and handling customer concerns.
