Five (or Six?) Visits In and Still One of Our Favorites
Trish and I just wrapped up what is probably our fifth or sixth visit to Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge, and it never gets old. Very different but still fun without the kids this time.
We went with the beef brisket omelette and the Belgian waffle, and both were fantastic. The brisket omelette is hearty and full of flavor, and the waffle was light, crisp, and everything a Belgian waffle should be. Their butter and compote is wonderful but very rich so you didn't need much (I'm kidding, load it on).
But the food is only half the show. The staff here play up sarcastic, grumpy personas as they serve you, and they commit to the bit (thanks Amelia!). It is all in good fun and it makes every meal feel like part of the entertainment. Word of warning: ask for the ketchup at your own risk. If you know, you know. If you don't, you're in for a treat.
This is a perfect spot to bring the kiddos. The playful atmosphere keeps them entertained through the whole meal, and the Wilderness Lodge setting is beautiful. After all these years and all these visits, Whispering Canyon still delivers every single time. Highly recommend.
We visited for Father’s Day brunch with a reservation, and I appreciate that we were seated without a long wait despite the holiday crowds. Unfortunately, everything after that was disappointing.
The dining room was incredibly loud, making it almost impossible for our family to have a conversation. Instead of creating a pleasant dining experience, the constant noise made the meal stressful and unenjoyable. Our server only added to the problem by speaking extremely loudly every time he came to our table, with no consideration for our privacy. The most uncomfortable moment came when we asked for ketchup. Rather than simply bringing a bottle, waiters loudly announce the request and asked other guests to walk over several bottles to other tables. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary, making us feel like we were part of a public announcement instead of enjoying a family meal.
The food was equally disappointing. The quality, presentation, and flavor were all well below what I have come to expect from Disney dining. Nothing we ordered stood out, and the meal certainly didn’t reflect the premium prices or Disney’s reputation for exceptional hospitality.
What should have been a memorable Father’s Day celebration turned into a frustrating experience. Between the noisy atmosphere, poor service, and underwhelming food, this brunch was a waste of money and did not meet Disney standards.

Our first visit here was quite the experience. With our server managing what appeared to be half the restaurant, we were gifted an generous stretch of time with the menu, plenty of it. Given only eight main dishes and no real guidance from our server, we navigated on our own and ordered the burnt end nachos, the pig which includes the pig wings, the land and sea, the traditional all you care to enjoy, and the milkshake all you care to enjoy one vanilla and strawberry.
The food itself was hearty and for the most part genuinely delicious, living up to exactly what the descriptions promised. The shakes were good. Unfortunately mid meal I discovered a hair nestled among my carrots, which effectively ended my appetite. Shortly after, my son's stomach turned from the pig wings. Management remade both dishes without hesitation, and his professionalism in that moment was the clearest highlight of our evening.
The green beans and potatoes leaned salty for my taste. Our server remained elusive throughout, while tables around us were checked on and refilled. My water sat empty long enough that my son quietly handed me his. By the time our bill arrived with errors, I found myself seeking out the manager once again, doing the work I'd hoped our server might have done for us.
The kitchen has real talent. The management shows genuine character. The floor service, however, has some growing to do. Thanks Jon. We appreciate your kindness and generosity.

First of all, the air conditioning was out. This was a Monday, and it is my understanding that the air conditioner had been broken since the previous Thursday. My grandson and I had The Traditional all you can’t eat for $45, and my husband had The Land and Sea all you can eat for $45. My younger grandson had The Traditional all you can eat for $17.50. The service was very slow because the servers had too many tables to serve. It took forever to get refills on our drinks. My husband’s tray came with a tiny piece of salmon, so he asked for another piece. It also took forever to get it, and the salmon was also flavorless. His tray was sparse and looked more like a kid’s meal. The food was barely warm when we got it, and it was presented very poorly. The pulled pork was very dry and flavorless, and the brisket was overly fatty and flavorless, as well. The chicken was below average, and the sides were lackluster. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. I communicated our disappointment to the server, and he was very apologetic and deducted one of our meals. We expected a significantly better experience at this price point.

Yeehaw! The energy from the cast at Whispering Canyon Cafe is infectious, rambunctious and just a plain ol’ good time. The main dining floor is navigable by wheelchair although cast members encourage you to leave ECVs at the front. There’s plenty of hooting and hollering, opportunities for your kids to get up and dance while the whole restaurant cheers them on twirling their napkins in the air. That said, this is not a sensory friendly environment. The menu boasts all you can eat platters with a select few à la carte options that may align with certain dietary restrictions. We recommend this restaurant to families looking to be entertained, and be a part of the entertainment, during their immersive old west barbecue experience.
