Really enjoyed the food and service. The sushi was good. The fried tofu was really nice--lightly battered so not too heavy-- with a good sauce, and the seaweed salad was good-- the sesame flavor was more prominent than the soy which was nice. They were very busy around 7:30 on a Saturday, but we were able to get a place at the bar. I recommend reservations if you want to impress your date. 🙂 Great service.

We went to O-Ku Jax Beach for lunch and amazing views recently. We had our dear friend with us. O-Ku is located at 502 First Street in Jax Beach and they have a great rooftop with killer ocean views. We split the Braised Pork Belly Bao to start, which was great. After that, we worked from the lunch specials. She did the Hot Box with chicken and I did the Sushi Box. We liked both and the only afterthought was that she would've asked for shrimp instead of chicken next time. My only note was that the Spicy Tuna roll included with my box was VERY spicy. That may sound like an odd thing to say but many places don't mean "spicy" when they say it about their rolls. O-ku means spicy when they say it, so just know that. Our servers name was John and he was great. Attentive without being overbearing and kept us updated on what we coming next while making solid suggestions on drinks, sides & desserts. I am out of town and decided to have dinner with my family and local friends. The atmosphere is nice but the food is decent and pricey. We ordered several dishes that including appetizer, sushi, sashimi, duck and pork belly. We were disappointed for several reasons: 1. Appetizers came out after the main dishes. 2. Pricing was out of hand for sashimi. 3. Overcharged for condiment, like wasabi. They charged us $11.95 for less than a table spoon of frozen wasabi which is ridiculous.

I spent my 30th birthday at O Ku tonight with my fiance and MIL and we had Kelsea as our server. Every dish was perfection. This is already one of our favorite spots and to be able to bring my out of town mother in law to experience a favorite of ours was a treat. She loved every dish we normally order and shared with her. Then we were delighted with mochi and a special gift Kelsea made happen for me for the occasion. That in itself was amazing! As we walked out I was wished a happy birthday by every staff we saw. It was truly special. Thank you Kelsea, and thank you O Ku! We will continue to spend our special (and casual) nights here! 🩷

O-Ku in Jacksonville Beach delivers a solid modern Japanese experience with clean flavors and nice presentation. The braised pork belly bao stood out for its tender, well glazed meat balanced by the soft steamed bun, crisp cucumber, and pickled onion. The spicy tuna or similar roll topped with crispy shallots had good texture contrast and a nice mix of creamy and savory sauces. The jalapeño avocado roll brought fresh heat without overpowering the fish. The uni topped spoon bites added a rich, briny note that felt like a proper special. Service was attentive and the space stays bright and casual. Worth a stop if you are craving sushi and Japanese plates near the beach.
